I know they say we have more games in EL than CL, but

    1) We would have more opportunities to play fringe players because the opposition is **** in the early stages.

    2) Sort of part 1b) In the CL we'll have to play our best players pretty much every game, where as in the EL we could play our back up players in the early stages and not have to play a full strength team until later on in the competition. More games, but more opportunities for fringe players. '

    3) We'd actually have a good chance of winning it, where as playing in he CL with the likes of Willock, Longstaff, Murphy, ASM and Almiron could be very painful.

I don't agree with your 3rd point ie 3rd placed CL teams join it and both Arsenal /Manure found to their cost that it ain't easy when you get to the latter stages.

But you fall into ditches after 2 cans of Skol, so your argument isn't really valid.

When you are 4 points clear of 5th with 3 left, then yes it would be bad.

At the start of the season i would have been delighted with 5th.

You are allowed to say both things.

I know exactly what you mean, but I've just loved how we've exceeded my expectations. I said top half and a cup run.
So whatever happens in these last 3 games, I'm still a very happy man.

And yes, I do get the whole thing about expectations changing based on the situation, but I genuinely will still look back on this season happily and with pride even if we do finish outside CL. If we do finish top 4, then I will be bouncing off the walls.

It's been a fantastic season given where we were not very long ago.

Newcastle fans are starting to realise.... they remember the feeling and know what's coming.

Now they're delighted with 5th before they've even fully imploded.

    Starting to realise?

Find a screenshot where I said I expected anything more than top half and a nice cup run. Should keep you busy for a while mate. <cheers>

I could accept 5th if we had been fairly treated by the officials but if we finish outside the top 4 i will be thinking about Marriner playing on til liverpool scored and willocks disallowed goal v palace for the rest of my life.

I'm desperate to now finish top 4 so i can wipe that from my memory.
