Unionists are very much entitled to celebrate Unionist/Protestant values but Nationalists are also entitled to celebrate Nationalist/Catholic values through St Patrick's day parades and Fleadhs which are an All Ireland thing not just an ROI thing. I just think the organisers of events on both sides should pay the organisation/policing/cleanup costs.

There should also be more cross community events too but that's another story.

St patricks day is celebrated worldwide and by half of the people of the north of Ireland. The fleadh is a celebration of actual culture (triumphalist OO marches aint culture) and the all ireland fleadh is the biggest attended music festival in europe with total crowds of around 250,000.
Due to the non sectarian nature of these festivals they see no violence apart from drunken arguements.

Now the OO, which started life as a paramilitary, is an undeniably sectarian organisation. It is a celebration of paramilitaries and murder. If thats unionist "culture" then it is a sad indictment of the unionist people.

They cause more economic trouble for the province than just the damage and policing costs so if they had any decency they would at least pay for that and allow the taxpayers money to be used on public services which benefit the whole community.

At the moment the OO does not have to take financial responsibility for its sectarianism, if it had to you would quickly see it softening on alot of its stances <ok>

St Patricks day is celebrated worldwide for more than just the Irish, for most people its about getting pished i accept in places like america and the UK that there is a large Irish population but at the end of the day it is still an Irish celebration.

To put it into context, Christmas, Easter, Valentines Day, Mothers Day etc are truly international because they are not about one country.

My point is though that even if it is celebrated on different days (so is christmas in europe they celebrate on the 24th as far as i know) its still an international holiday.

Christmas, easter and St Valentines day are Christian celebrations...... for Christians. Mothers day is not international as it happens on different days in different countries. I don't get your argument..... I don't think it is worth having either.

I don't think you are in a position to be calling anyone a dunce after you just tore apart your own argument.....that nobody wanted in the first place.

Whos arguing you spackers, your trying to tell me that Christmas, Easter and Valentines day are Christian holidays, so why is it most of the known world celebrates all 3, surely the religious divide isn't that big, i know I'm not christian and none of my family are yet we all celebrate those 3 dates - i tore apart my own argument, no you made the argument out of it when you said such a ******ed sequence of words.

If you can't agree with that then theres no ****in' chance I'll agree with any of your ideals (not that I'd ever agree with jacky simply because hes a ****ing walloper) you want to behave like weans you'll get treated like them.

    <laugh>

Maybe we should just park it here because I just don't understand what your (sic) saying.

I may have picked you up wrong but it looks very much like you are saying that Christmas (celebrating the birth of Jesus), Easter (celebrating the resurrection of Jesus) and St Valentines day are not Christian festivals..... but I don't think anyone would be that stupid. Therefore you must be saying something else and are unable to articulate it.

So its okay to celebrate your own culture if there is no organisation running it?

The reason the bill is so high is because the police are there is for the OO's protection. The parade lasts a few minutes in some places yet the rioting goes on for days on end.

Would it be acceptable to ask the gay pride event organisers to foot the bill if a crowd of thugs, disagreeing with their march, showed up and then destroyed the place for the next few days?

As for you calling me a bigot. I have already pointed out your sectarianism in this thread. Can you tell me what other group of people, other than Rangers fans and Orangemen, you call huns?

    Fighting for freedom!?! http://www.irishcentral.com/news/Di...n-in-childs-bicycle-in-Belfast-115633089.html

    But also no answers.

What part of that is lies?

Because its a big yearly event through Belfast

Do people show up at these events to oppose them with bottles, bricks and petrol bombs?

No it was a Friday night. Excuse me for not sitting at a computer all night on the internet talking to you.

This is a lie. A lie that you have been repeating since July. I am asking you why you feel the need to tell lies.

    Yes, really.

I'll ask you one more time why you feel you have to tell lies?
