He didn't though, he made way more mistakes than usual and just generally didn't look comfortable

If we were to sign a centre half it should be someone who would/should be first choice. I agree Bradley doesn’t tick any of the boxes.

They're a million times better than us, but you can see a lot of similarities in the way we want to play and Brighton. You can definitely tell Rosenior has drawn influence from them and they have to be the model we follow. I don't think theres a better side to watch in the prem at the moment and it makes me excited for us next season.

    Excellent performance.
Not sure why there was so many Sunderland fans at the Emirates though?

It does seem a weird one. Surely there'd need to be some movement on Figueredo ahead of us signing another CB.

I think their style is a style we are trying to replicate and could adopt but we need to be more dynamic and braver , but for the time being BHA are really good to watch, until they get plundered .

They’ve been plundered before. They’ve sold key players in Ben White, Cucurella, Bissouma, Maupay and Trossard in the last two years and it hasn’t halted them. I read an article about how their recruitment team is thinking 3-4 years in advance. There are players like Caicedo and Mac Allister who their recruitment team have already lined up replacements for a while now and they haven’t even left yet. Buy low, sell high.

We seem to be trying to replicate Brighton in several aspects. Rosenior clearly wants us to play like them. He probably wants us to recruit like them too.

People speak as if succession planning is some crazy new policy but it should be the norm. Salzburg do it well too. Ideally, you'd want the replacement in the building for at least 6 months before the big-name player leaves.

In theory that's what we tried to do with KLP and Ally but it didn't really work out. I remember Acun talking up Ally as a huge talent when we signed him and maybe it'll pan out, but I think the intent was to have him as the new young exciting goalscorer after KLP moved on.

Maybe but they're completely different players. Succession planning only works if you have a clear structure and way of playing that isn't going to change. I know there are lofty expectations for next season but I wouldn't be against us signing 6/8/10 young players this summer. Players in the Vaughan, Slater, Alfie, and McLoughlin mould but maybe the level above who have the ability to kick on and become PL players. It wouldn't give the instant impact many fans want but it would see us in a really strong position for the next 4/5 years.

I know they're very different, but Ally was brought in as a pacey winger/striker so positionally I think the theory was he would take KLP's spot, who was also playing on the wing or up top. I don't think our recruiting is anywhere near as sophisticated as Brighton's.

I know you love making these grandiose comments about how easy transfer business is, but 6/8/10 players who are a level above Vaughn and Slater and could kick on and become PL players don't just grow on trees and wouldn't come cheap.

How easy would that be to do though? Realistically who are we going to get in that will start ahead of Greaves, Jones and McLoughlin? I don't see it.

It's not like Slater or Vaughan were stupidly highly rated prospects we had to beat a number of PL and Championship clubs to sign. There are very few teams at our level who prioritise the future and having the ability to spend £100k-£250k on a prospect will get you some very good players

Signing a raft of talented young players with potential is miles easier than trying to sign a left-back, a holding midfielder, an attacking midfielder, two wingers and the striker we need. And we need all those players to be significant upgrades on what we have and we've somehow got to sign them whilst keeping under FFP and also manage to beat everyone else to their signature.

Considering we've got limited resources, it's just not worth it. You'd expect the centre half we do get to be at either end of the age spectrum. He'd either be a young player who'll improve (I still think Bernard is a no brainer) or a Curtis Davies type (ideally a touch younger) who's got experience and leadership whilst still being very capable but happy to not play every week

I believe that is the thinking behind Celi signing, and something Brighton has done very well, pick talent from S American countries and nurtured them until they are ready for the first team.
