Hi guys QPR fan in peace..whats happening to the Red-lion pub? My season ticket holding neighbour says that GT said on the forum that the red lion is Bassinis.Does that mean that he personally owns it and is going to use it as a pub/restuarant/development independantly and not as an asset to you guys?

The truth is that we don't know, other than the fact that he has taken a personal interest in the renovation.

He'd be stupid to take it out of the club, as the only thing making it potentially viable is the goodwill of Watford fans. The other option would be to turn it into an away fans' pub, but 10,000 letters of complaint every time something kicks off in there would soon put a stop to that.

Not very big Deano in its heyday it wasnt that big ! as a land footprint ,from hazy memories as a teenager I think it had a good size public bar and a small snug and a small lounge ! I suppose the question is how many floors you will have after the renovation ! I`m sorry Deano cant really be of any more help than that!

I see that a company by this name was set up a couple of months ago. It is registered at 88/98 College Road, Harrow, so not the High Wycombe address for his football club. Where I was looking there was no reference to Bas.

A visitors view of the Red Lion in 2002.

The Red Lion, Vicarage Road, Watford. Time visited: Tuesday, 1.30pm

THE thing about the Red Lion is it is opposite the football stadium and to me, is an authentic matchday pub.

That is to say it is a carbon copy of every other pub I have ever been in that is near a football ground.

Even though my visit was during the close season, I could easily imagine the place packed out, with that unique buzz, and a group of lads playing pool getting in the way of the rest of the punters.

Seldom, though, have I been in such a pub when it isn't matchday, so this was an interesting experience for me.

What was particularly interesting was my friend and I were the only two customers, save a bloke with a broken arm sat at a table who didn't take his eyes off us the entire time we were there surely he didn't fancy a pop?

So lunchtimes are quiet, despite a limited menu being on offer, and while I reckon a fair amount of people may prop themselves up at the bar of an evening, I'm confident the jukebox would scratch to a halt if a new face walked through the door.

However, the barmaid was pleasant enough, and drinks are competitively priced at £4.75 for a pint of Stella and Carlsberg.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the place is not clean, but it is a bit grotty around the edges.

But, again, that adds to the authentic matchday pub feel, as do the numerous posters and newspaper clippings documenting Watford FC's former glories.

To be honest, if I were a Watford fan, it is possible I would be in the Red Lion before and after every home game.

But I'm not, and while I never say never, it'll be a long time before I go out of my way to go there again

Yes, I remember you saying that w_y. <applause>

So I assume that if it is a seperate ltd company, then profits, if any, will stay within the company and not filter down to the club.

Not sure how that can work OFH, I thought the pub was an asset of the club's holding company? Unless it has been sold on and the new company are paying for the rumoured very extensive and expensive renovations? I also heard a rumour that it will be the venue for "gentlemen's evenings", so it looks like a pattern is emerging!
