I think that this aternoon will be a dmab squib. Can't see anything other than another loss. Not sure that there will be protests but expect the grown to be empty very quickly afterwards. This is the first season I have not bothered to go to matches because I have had other commitments which were more interesting.
It is what it is, we get what we deserve, miracle needed . It could be a banger instead of a damp squib, we could go of like a rocket and have a sparkler of a game.
A spokesperson says that a chain of events could lead to our relegation today, there is a lot riding on the result but it is unlikely that we can put a brake on it. Other results could keep us in the frame. That rings a bell.
Really relaxed about today. Expecting to lose, thereby confirming relegation. It’s been coming for 3 seasons and it is necessary to rebuild the club. As long as we get the right manager, we will start the process. Don’t expect to get promoted straight away, just hope for a more entertaining set of results and new teams to play.
The way I look at it this, we've had 11years in the top flight and likely now take our place in the Championship. Bristol, Sheffield, Sunderland, Middleborough etcetera, none have had the experience we've had. It's been a extremely disappointing season, but we still have a Club, not getting docked for financial irregularities with a massive amount already spent on players. Ok let's not go all through the same repeats of feelings on that but for those able to go this afternoon and the remaining two games, I hope it's a good experience all round. I can't attend but will be there first home game next season, scarf on and ready to go!!
Having experienced a few I guess I should feel phlegmatic about it. But I'm disappointed (there's a euphemism!) that unlike previous relegations we haven't stretched it out for a last day or so of uncertainty and so will be denied that final false hope. In '74, in typical Saints style, we won 3-0 at Goodison and for a few glorious minutes could believe in miracles. In '05 we went a goal up against United and hope flooded through us. 2-1 up against Burnley in our last home game in 09 wasn't going to save us, but meant that the 10 point penalty would be applied immediately rather than when we went down. A missed penalty and a Burnley equaliser killed off that hope. So to today. If we don't go today it'll be soon as sure as eggs is eggs (whatever that means). I won't be abusing anyone. I'll be saddened. At my age, the Coventry result that saw us back into PL seems like last week, but then you reflect that JWP has never played a league game for Saints outside the Prem and realise it's been a longer adventure than we must have feared. We have seen some great players come and go. We've been the better team in a Wembley final but inevitably lost. That we've seen some great free kick goals from our maestro - the two at Villa Park being my stand out ones - is tempered by the knowledge that he'll now break the record in the strip of another team (unless Fulham can help us out here!). And we'll be back. Re-set time everybody. Supporting Saints is for life.
I don't know why but this relegation doesn't feel anywhere near as painful as it did in 2005. I think that it's because i've not really enjoyed the last few seasons and feel that the club and team needs a reset. In 2005 we were only a year after Strachan left when we were in the top ten and went to an FA Cup final and had been in the top league for 27 years! Plus there was the financial uncertainty of a new stadium's finance hanging over us and a very unpopular Chairman who was getting tighter and tighter with the purse strings. Our beloved rivals were still in the PL too. This time we'll still be a league above them and even if we fail to return immediately I feel that the investment will be there for us to compete plus we already have a good pool of young talent here.
More annoyed that the weathers gonna piss on my BBQ than I am about those bunch of clowns getting relegated today.
For me it's more just that I accepted relegation two months ago. So there isn't that pain to feel now. Back in 2005, I was still hoping right until the end.
Not bothered to follow the game today BUT when I listen to the results at 5 o'clock I expect to hear that we tanned 'em!
Can see today being a draw. Desmond is my prediction. Anyone else actually want it done today? From a selfish point of view I think it'll make Brighton next week more enjoyable and it's also better than when there's hundreds of scousers in our home ends. Kind of nice to have one settled early rather than dragging it to the last day.
