Keep Alcaraz and Livrementi build a team around them. I love JWP he's a brilliant professional and be great for us if he stays but in his prime he belongs in the premier league. Not bothered about any other players apart from Alcaraz and Livermento. Selles v unlikey he will be retained.
Agree to an extent. Assuming Lavia will also be off. We should prioritise keeping them and perhaps Perraud. Che would be nice too but suspect he'll go. Though get the right manager in and we've got every chance of coming back up, even with what's left after KWP, Salisu, ABK, Che, JWP* inevitably get sold, with a couple of reinforcements. Teams who change everything rarely come back up and although we have a young squad you'll struggle to find players more effective/proven at that sort of level than Armstrong ×2, Aribo, Ely, Bree etc
Based on that Hughes would have had 32 points this season. Probably not but just shows how stats can be used.
That's the main thing that needs to happen. Getting the right manager, then let's see about players in/out.etc.
Everything I've read assumes that Selles will go, probably sacked by Sports Republic. Has anyone seen anything concrete to indicate that SR will actually replace Selles? It is possible (but very unpalatable) that SR will continue to back Selles, as they have (mis-placed) confidence in his managerial credentials, and Southampton may simply be an interesting, if costly, experiment in their eyes.
I'm pretty sure that Selles will go. SR will say the right things whilst the season is on and then not renew his contract after the last day. No point in paying out more compo this year.
If it were purely down to Ankerson again I could see him sticking with Selles for next season because he walked into an almost hopeless situation, he's a nice guy, the players like him, the stats say he's good etc etc. but I'm hopeful that Wilcox will come in and have other ideas.
It’s not as though Jason Wilcox has been kept in purdah, with no clue about what’s been going on with his new employers over the last few months. He will know at least as much, and hopefully a lot more, than any of us fans, or the journalists who report on Saints matters. My fervent hope is that he has a detailed plan, already discussed and agreed with the rest of the board. First item on the agenda will be to remind Rasmus Ankersen that he, Wilcox, has been brought in to be in charge of football throughout the club, and that Rasmus has no need to be directly involved any more. Second item is the manager, and I would bet my mortgage on Wilcox’s preferences having already been identified and agreed upon. Maybe Rubén’s replacement has already been appointed in secret, just because we haven’t heard about it doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened.
That's what we need to happen (we also need Wilcox to be good at his new job); particularly with the relatively short turnaround between the end of the PL season and the start of the Championship season.
I don't think any Director of football, would have been able to stop Rasmus Ankersen from appointing Nathan Jones as manager. However I think that expensive mistake will help Jason Wilcox to be freer in finding Saints the next Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Rico Lewis. Of course the board will have the final say in appointing the next manager I just hope at least one of them will curb any ideas Rasmus has of pushing his choices.
Which stats say he’s good? He has our lowest ever win % as manager over his first 10 games doesn’t he?
No idea, that was just me taking the piss out of the strange and useless stats that Ankerson seems to like to use to make the weird decisions that he makes. Selles does have a 100% record at beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. If anything Selles is now better than he was before taking the job because he has now failed in the job and that's what Ankerson goes for.
He also has 100% win are against Leicester. He is the Saints manager that has worn the most turtlenecks. He is 100% nicer than Nathan Jones...who had the bet stats in Europe.
All these positives! It's almost as if we are collectively harbouring a secret desire to keep Selles. Almost.
Lol and therein lies the problem. The best manager of the season IMO is Ralph. The one we got rid of to start this **** show.
Hi this is Ruben borrowing jons account. There are still 9 points to play for so please don't judge me until after the Liverpool game.
What? After I've organised the pitchforks and burning torches? Does this mean I'll have to postpone the lynch mob? They won't like it...
