Why do they wear a hard hat in the cab when it's the highest thing around? What do they think is liable to land on them?

Incredible that only a generation or so they were talking of a few thousand planets (as per the bloke in that link). Now we (well, not us) estimate something like 700 quintillion planets in the universe! Get your head round that.
I struggle with the images of far flung stars and galaxies revealed by the fancy new telescope. That aren't there anymore. From the industrial revolution to where we are now, a handful landing on the moon. What civilisations and technologies may there have been on those long lost worlds?
