European economists forced to admit errors in doom-mongering forecasts for UK: 'We were wrong, plain and simple' According to Vasileios Gkionakis, head of European foreign exchange strategy at Citi, predictions of a “material correction” in house prices and a collapse in consumption fell through. “We have been wrong, plain, and simple," Gkionakis wrote in a note to clients on Tuesday. Chief Secretary to the Treasury, David Mellor said: "Talking down the British economy has been a habit of people really, in all the years I've been interested in politics. "But the British economy and the British people, despite some of their awful political leaders, are stronger than we ever give them credit for and there is more resilience in the British economy. "The British economy is more effective than a lot of its critics minded. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/oth...1&cvid=c4a32a8e41c744de9c29820992bf8bcd&ei=21
And given both that and the fact that the Tories lost over 1000 council seats in local elections most political analysts are forecasting that Labour will fail to gain a majority in the next GE and will be looking to form a coalition government
They are extrapolating from local election results. Labour always does worse in locals than the. GE. People are more inclined to give their votes to smaller parties and mist of these are on the left. Greens are in control of two councils in Suffolk and took something in excess of 20% of the vote. It's also likely that Labour will win seats in Scotland. This hasn't been taken account of.
Nice to hear from someone who knows more than professional political analysts, they have all mentioned the fact that Labour will take votes off the SNP but agree probably not enough. Lab/Lib coalition? Could be fun.
They're still trying to spin the situation at John Lewis, where they're trying to get rid of the White woman that's chair. https://www.theguardian.com/busines...on-white-over-losses-but-back-her-to-continue
