We already have 2 young strikers though, more beneficial for us to have an older striker with PL experience to provide support to make those 2 better
Sargent is capable of scoring 20 plusgoals. I believe he should be our starting striker next season, whereas I believe you are looking for a new starter? No signing can guarantee scoring 20 goals
I’d just like to say it is nice to see some well reasoned debate on here again without people resorting to name calling or getting upset. This is exactly what this board should be! We can all disagree but also accept others point of views
I know, that’s why I said Sargent was capable of that. Do you want to sign a L1 striker to start over him or be back up?
If we do sign Barnes we'll sign another striker as well. Wagner wants competition for places. I just hope we sign a CM and DM first this time.
Good option, except Davies is a CM who can also play as an AM or a DM. I'd rather recruit a specialist DM like Skipp who plays there and nowhere else. Watching Sørensen struggling at CB against a relegated team was thoroughly dismal.
My keep/sell/replace wishlist: GK Gunn (keep) Krul (keep) New player/ youth promotion RB Aarons (sell) Mumba (keep) New player CB Hanley (keep) O'dele (keep) Gibson (sell) New player New player Tomkinson (loan) Hall (loan) LB Dimi (keep) McCallum (sell) New player CDM Mclean (keep) Sorensen (sell) New player New player CM Sara (keep) Nunez (keep) Gibbs (keep) New player Wide players Hernandez (keep) New player New player Tzolis (sell) Rashica (sell) Rowe (loan) Strikers Sargent (keep) Idah (keep-because we have to now!) New player Kamara (loan) I know this probably won't happen and I dont hold out much hope for our recruitment team getting right, even if it were possible. But we simply have to hope that major changed are made and that they get it right for once! 11 new players might be a stretch lol... but I feel our squad has become stale and Im not convinced our youth players are ready to step up yet.
At LB I would do the opposite to you. Sell Dimi and keep McCallum, who I personally believe to be a better defender.
The only players I would actively try to keep this summer are Gunn, Gibbs and Mumba, everyone else I would listen to offers for. That's because they're either underperforming, or their sale could help fund improvements of the squad. It's a gamble given our recent recruitment record, but if we can get £15m for Aarons and use that to fund 3 first team players, I think we have to try it. The squad needs major surgery. My hope for the summer is that recruitment goes well, because we're in a scenario where Webber has thrived before. This feels very much like the summer where we sold Maddison and Josh Murphy, really the only bright spots in that side, but brought in Buendia, Pukki, Rhodes, Krul, Leitner, and some of our overseas additions from the previous season started to look bedded in (Hopefully next season's Vrancic and Stiepermann are already in the building). Things are harder post-Brexit, but we're back to that template of looking for under-appreciated players who can fit into a defined playing style. The club at least looks a bit healthier off the pitch, which should help, and perhaps there's an injection of cash from ownership available if needed. They've realistically known since January that they're planning for Championship football under Wagner, hopefully we're well prepared for the summer and can make some strong early moves to get players in and settled. In terms of what we need, obviously a DM and a chief creator are missing, but more than anything this season we've lacked all the intangibles that made Farke's team so good. This team play with fear and without hunger, mentally beaten the second we're behind. They can't match the work ethic and team spirit of Farke's side either. Hopefully those characteristics are present in new signings.

I toyed with it, and I'd like to keep him. But I think if someone offers £15m+ for him or Aarons (I don't see anyone else commanding that kind of fee) then that could go a long way. Gunn, Mumba, Gibbs could all be important players in the next 1-2 seasons, and could potentially step up to Premier League level. A transfer now would be at greatly less than their potential value, and I think we'd struggle to find a replacement of similar quality for the fee obtained. A CM or RB who can make an impact this season and potentially step up to Premier League level should be available for less than we'd sell Aarons or Sara for, allowing us to fund additions to the rest of the squad.
