he won' though he will either leave next summer or get a new lucrative contract or unfortunately have a career threatening injury safe in the knowledge that he has a long contract to cushion him .

Paul Barber has come out and said they don’t do release clauses. Not club policy so guess sets the stall out early in negotiations.

at same time, they’ve never stood in a players way if big clubs come in and the timing is right.

White was stopped going to Leeds on perm deal. Next year goes arsenal for 50m

Caicedo stopped in January as timing wasn’t right given just lost Bissouma in summer but no doubt will be allowed to go this summer for right price. Players know they’ll get game time to boost their profile, get a decent wage and if opportunity comes will be allowed to move

Only problem is if the club put too high a price on them and there are no takers. They are stuck at the club. Probably won't happen but still a risk. Like West Ham sticking £100m price tag on Rice.

Clubs perspective; they don't want to sell so won't be bothered.

Player perspective; I agree. Find it strange that you'd say that though when you was disagreeing with me yesterday when I said Haaland was sensible for insisting on having a release clause and refusing a bumper pay increase because he wanted to keep said release clause.

Well as the lads have said Brighton are a club with revenue of 175mil.

strip the TV money and they are down to 70 odd and that will fall more so they can only give players the average prem wage. lallana is gone this summer as a high earner btw.

these guys are happy to get to the prem as players and are lined up to move on. Brighton will only sell one imo

I honestly don't think west ham are set up to buy players to move them and they are really just cutting their own throats on rice.

Tactic seeks to be to get good experienced pros in to help with the youthful players.

Welbeck, lallana, Milner. A core of good English pros to help bring along the players like ferguson, enciso, bounadette

I'm sure Jimmy has done some research here and will have some insight into this guys ability to sign us players and how it fits into our strategy.

I think they are two entirely different situations to be looked at differently. Just to start out with I'm neither for nor against release clauses. In Macallister's case he's fulfilled his contract and is looking to move on so for him to sign a new contract, any contract, with or without a release clause was the wrong thing to do imo. The club could (unlikely because I don't think it's their style) price him out of a move. Haaland is almost a unique case. Poor love's only on £1m a week. How's he going to manage without the extra money? <whistle>

One is showing commitment to his club, one is showing commitment to himself. Fwiw I don't think either contract renewal could be described as sensible.

Liverpool to offer £50m for Alexis Mac Allister according to report

A few days ago, TyC Sports journalist, Cesar Luis Merlo, revealed that the Merseysiders have offered a five year contract until 2028 to the Brighton midfielder, who wants to make his final decision at the end of the campaign.

again before the contract was offered he was signed from Argentina as a 20 year old for 7mil and his wage was about 20k. That was January 2019 on 4.5 year deal. (so 2024 expiry)

Brighton knew what might happen to value and offered him 63k a week before the world cup and the player grateful accepted.

Clearly he still expects to be able to swan out of Brighton as the contract was up to 2025 with an option for another year. Its basically 3 years left on deal now

If macallister did expect to leave then yes it was probably a very bad idea to sign up for 9 months of 40k a week more if it risked him being blocked. I genuinely think he fully expect to be able to walk out of Brighton easily and considered this free money.

I think you are probabaly right that it was a foolish move.

As for haaland we have to see he is part of a seriously greedy set up between family, agent etc and has been on this path for YEARS. the move to salzburg was designed to screw that club over and move on. the move to dortmund had a ridiculous release but dortmund knew what they were getting and what whoudld happen#

The release at city is probably doable for 3 clubs globally. He's accepted hi 900k a week based on he is now at the point wehre he can get trophies and records for his legacy.

HOWEVER, the greed is central and he will turn up at real madrid sooner rather than later. the 5 year length to the contract is largely meaningless. Its 1 year in and i reckon city will do well to get 2 more out of him.

It's not about the money, it's about him not being stuck at a club because the over value him and/or refuse to sell.

Exactly you said in the post above which is why I found out strange.

I'd love city to end up with nothing this year, just love it - (read in Kevin Keegan voice).

Its not going to happen though.

    Arsenal have messed up
    Utd are not good enough
Real are good enough but could do what they did against us for 20mins and be out.

I think they have a domestic double in the bag. Again.
