They were paying **** all for it, why end it early? People all over the world see that logo on our shirts, they were getting a bargain at £2m per year.

Obviously going to have Sports Direct on the shirts "to show potential sponsors how it will look". I wish he'd use Cruise or USC to steal sponsorship off us, at least the logos are decent and match the clubs colours. The Sports Direct stuff is hideous.

    So obvious.

    December arrives and:

"We couldn't find a sponsor in time so we had to revert to our emergency plan of using SD as our sponsor for the next 2 years."

You could be right here, seems that Northern Rock are pulling out as soon as they are legally able to. I remember there was quite an outcry that NR renewed their sponsorship deal with NUFC, especially as they had been bailed out by the taxpayer.
The Sun in particular tried to get a bit of a campaign going about it, Jimmy Greaves used his football column to bemoan the fact he'd lost money through his investments in NR. It was a pretty damming article that he wrote making nasty comments about our club, I did email a response suggesting he should have bought shares in Newcastle breweries not NR, naturally my email was not printed. :emoticon-0120-doh:

So, does this mean we wont have Northern Rock on the shirts for the next game?

Please, someone say we're keeping NR for the rest of the season. I dont think I could bare looking at the shirt if it had Sports Direct on it.

As far as I understand it, yes Northern Rock will be there until the end of the season. By which point their 2 years will be up and we will get a new sponsor.

I think we all need to start showing our support for JJB Sports. Would be funny to have them banners in the stadium.

    Direct f*ck u to Ashley

I hope so! But, having said that. Judging by how long it took Llambias to find a striker for the club....I dread to think how long it will take him to find a sponsor!

Might be wrong, but didn't they sign the deal in the middle of the Championship season (i.e. late 2009)? If it's two years and not two season they could terminate the deal in the next couple of months.

I think we will have a new sponsor by Xmas. Going on what lambias said about needing a sponsor by the end of December because puma need to print the shirts. I'm positive pumas deal ends at at the end of the season. If this is the case then the shirt sponsor must be changing imediately.

These possibly. The way they're wording it is that they need to find a sponsor before the end of December, and Puma need to know who as they need to print shirts. If it was until the end of the season they wouldn't need to know who it is yet as they haven't even made next year's shirts yet?

Still think a Charity would be better good press and gives him longer to decide

Aye, I'd love to see SBRF on the shirt. Imagine they'd sell a ton of them too.

It's not about "good press" it's about publicity for his company. When he bought the club he told Sir John Hall he wanted to use it as a vehicle to market Sports Direct in the Far East.

True! I reckon we'll be having a new sponsor by January then. I still think NR will feature on the shirts until the end of 2011. It could be a yearly thing, rather than a season thing?

You got a link to a source for that? Sounds like it could make an interesting read.
