So here we are at the butt end of the season and still looking to win games. All we need to do is match the "other" result and we are Champions. No pressure then and what could possibly go wrong. Plymborn stole my expression in another thread earlier. We owe Port Vale a kicking for the home result earlier this season. There is a part of me that won't be too bothered whatever happens in this game and there is a part of me that wants to rub it in to the participants of that "other" game. No matter what is said about being the best team in the entire football league we deserve the title just as much as anyone else. We have earned it over the last 45 games and I would love us to crack 100 points again. With a bit of luck the squad haven't drunk themselves into a stupour this last week and they will be well up for it. I don't actually doubt they will be. We can do it...........

I have just read that our Ref for this one has issued 137 yellows and 6 reds so far this season. Gulp. I hope he doesn't ruin this.

I think this game needs winning......runners up are generally forgotten.

To win the Div One trophy will be there for all time......we have led this league literally all season no one deserves it more.

The players will want to finish what they started......and that will build confidence for next season for those players that will still be here.......it will remind Ipswich who they trailed behind all season and completing the task at Port Vale will also stop Port Vale from being the only team who can take 6pts from Argyle......we can do this and finish the job in style.

Today reminds me of our last game in the 1974/75 season.....I've just checked it out to make sure my memory isn't playing tricks on me.

Away to Peterborough....all we needed was a win ...and we would go up to the second division as champions.

I drove up that day by myself....and parked the car and walked to the ground....it didn't feel like an away game.....green and white everywhere....inside the ground it wasn't easy to recognize that Peterborough where the home team....not much blue around.

Argyle hadn't only taken over the ground but the town as well and caused lots of trouble there....and at the ground before kick-off......we lost 1-0 they scored in the 42nd minute.

Blackburn had a game in hand.... which they played on the following Tuesday and they pipped us by one point....60pts to 59.

It was Mariners 100th game for Argyle.....The team that day was......Jim Furnell, John Hore, Phil Burrows, Bobby Saxton, Mike Green, John Delve, Colin Randell, Brian Johnson, Paul Mariner, Billy Rafferty, Hugh McAuley.

    Barrie Vassallo was 12th man.

48 years ago now.......but most of those names could be called Green Legends remembered by many......I do remember McAuley moving on to Charlton and watching him down there....not sure if it was the next season or not.

So today is important...we do not need a repeat of coming second....and we certainly don't need a repeat of the trouble that was caused by some so called Argyle fans that day.

ps.....McAuley spent two more seasons at Argyle before moving on.

On this historic day for Plymouth Argyle. I’d like to give my special thanks to Virgin Media, whose network went down 30 minutes before kick off. With the final whistle having just been blown, I expect it back shortly.

Not only is that £10 down the drain, but the four of us here, who’ve watched about two thirds of the games, one way or another, have missed the finale.

    Thank God for Radio Devon.

Well done all at Argyle who’ve outperformed clubs with bigger resources by a country mile, all done ethically on the pitch and off, Well done to the players, who’ve entertained as will as triumphed and kept their nerves as the trophy loomed larger and larger.

Luck has never come into the equation, This is not one iota more than we deserved.

    Ryan Hardie just interviewed.

“When did you start to think you could do this Ryan?”

    “Start of the season really.”

    FINAL SCORE.

    Port Vale...1-3...Plymouth A

    Plant...3mins...............Randell...34mins.....Edwards...38mins.....Azaz...61mins.

Terrible start going down to a third minute goal.....the defence just weren't around to deal with it.

BUT...Randell & Edwards scoring twice within 4mins changed it around.....and Finn Azaz scoring in the 61st minute with a great shot took the heat out of the situation.

In the meanwhile Ipswich where struggling at 2-1 down....managing a 2-2 draw in the end.

SO.....ARGYLE ARE CHAMPIONS ON 101PTS....AND IPSWICH SECOND WITH 98PTS.

Sheff W, Barnsley, Bolton and a late run by Peterborough to take the 4th play-off spot from Derby by 1pt.

Regarding the TV video....kept losing the sound in the first half a little in the second as well....kept .getting an irrating noise replacing it.....although I had my sound on maximum it was varied up and down and was just passable......The picture kept distorting and freezing mostly in the first half and even in the second half a little......so poor quality alround personally....but obviously not as bad as you got notDistant.

Those two wally's doing the chat at Home Park didn't impress me one little bit.....don't know who they were....but the irish sounding gentleman looked as if he had escaped from somewhere having locked up a genuine devonian commentator in his place.....surely there are proper locals who could have done the job with some passion.

So Schumacher now has the job of building a Championship team.....he will miss Mumba, Matete, & Azaz.....Lonwijk & Cosgrove not so much maybe.

Incredibly Argyle have amassed 181 pts in the last two season....it's going to change in the championship....but we will have expected that anyway.

It seems the screen at Home Park was having issues as well.

Well Mumba was interviewed and had it put to him that Argyle fans would like him to return next season. He replied along the lines of “just enjoying the day and we’ll face that when it comes up”, That sort of suggests it’s not completely out of the question…,

The summariser was ex Argyle player Hasney Aljofree. Apologies if that spelling isn’t right…

No this a major Virgin Media meltdown. No internet, no landline phones, no TV, no nothing.

It just seems to have come back on.

Thank you and congratulations to you too. The right two teams have gone up. Both play football the right way.

notdistant never fear I am here. Have been at my daughters for the evening watching West Ham stuff Man U 1 - 0. Like you I was expecting to watch the match today at son's. He also is with Virgin. He tried to do a hot spot thing (no idea what that means or if it's right) and it just would not work. He got a picture and it just buffered and stuck. We switched it all off and put on Radio Devon as well just in time to here Port Vale score. Thought here we go for another happy Argyle day. But, not to be and the boys dun us proud. I am so chuffed we did it as Champions and in my book having watched loads of games this season we thoroughly deserved it. I also agree with Dan Scarr. The Media more or less wrote us off and forgot us. Well feck them and how wrong could they all be. Apart from some minor irritation on the TV where some bloke got some bling presented this has been a cracking weekend.

Virgin had a very big outage:

    https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...ge-strikes-broadband-isp-virgin-media-uk.html

There's mention of it possibly being caused by a DDOS (Distributed Denial Of Service) attack by a hostile party but in my experience, Virgin are incompetent enough to have caused it without outside help. I also tried to get to the pictures via my mobile phone (also on a Virgin account but which uses the O2 physical network) but couldn't get any internet at all that way either. I'll watch it later when the full replay comes up on the website.

I was thinking about it... yes I know it's a tough, competitive league and a tremendous amount of work has to be put in by management and players, day after day, game after game, month after month. But if you take that as a given for all teams, once out on the pitch, we've never really looked like NOT going up. We've brushed some sides away like gnats and in the tougher ones, by and large, we haven't looked intimidated or even concerned. As Vicky Pollard might have said "are we bovvered?". No we were not, or at least the team weren't if the fans were.

On the rare occasions when we've lost, we have tended to concede several, hence the goal difference. But it didn't happen very often did it? And anyway, I put it down in part to a desire to push on and try to score goals in all circumstances, and that won us more than it did lose. What's more, when we did lose, it wasn't allowed to become a trend: we bounced right back and won the next one.
