When did we turn into Russia and stop normal protesting?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65507435

I sort of agree to stop things like when roads are blocked etc but this was just a bog standard protest

    I completely agree.
I suspect that, with the unbelievably difficult security operation surrounding the Coronation, zero tolerance was preferred to letting something happen.
It's not unheard of for terrorists etc to conceal themselves among peaceful protestors etc.
I agree that peaceful protest is an important democratic right though.

If the police thought they were going to lock-on, they'd stop it.

Hope you're enjoying the coronation. It's a rare event and i think you are pro royalist.

Not really a royalist myself but quite happy for charles. Think he's done a good job and is pretty inclusive

I love history and this is a very historic event.
I very much enjoy the pomp and ceremony, at which we excel.
I prefer a monarchy to a Republic for sure.
I quite like Charles and he's certainly had a long wait.
Not a fan of the religious side of it, but it's all part of the tradition etc I suppose.

Again here for an opinion not a fight.

I am reading the lovable cuddly Wagner group are getting a bit fed up with Putin and Russia for not giving them enough staff mto kill people with. They are threatening to pull out of the fight.

    1. Could this end the war, in Ukraines favour?
    2. Could this actually rebound back on Putin..and bring him down.

    3. Could the Wagner group be an influence fir change in Russia

    3. Are the Wagner group seriously dangerous outside Ukraine and Russia...are we open to a mercenary right wing group attack anywhere in the world

    ? Yeltsin?
    1. No, not in the short term
    2. No [Putin] is probably using the Wagner bloke to put a rocket up his official military
    3. No, they operate outside Russia
    4. Only in places where there are already conflicts wars going on - they are already in Sudan and other African conflicts. As Ukraine shows they aren’t that great up against motivated opposition.

All in my opinion. Wagner just shows how weak the formal Russian military is. And the fact that Wagner in Ukraine has had to staff itself by getting convicts out of Russian prisons on the promise of do six months in Ukraine and you are free - but if you try to desert or don’t perform well we shoot you - shows that Wagner itself is pretty pathetic.[/QUOTE]

    No, No and No...

There is no short term solution to end this war, and those below Putin are just as bad, if not worse than him

Exactly this. If people think that if Putin gets deposed, that there is some fluffy general waiting in the wings wanting peace and live…they will be sorely disappointed

    Thank you..for answers

Still think it is strange, that such a big powerful country such a Russia has to use a private army to fight its war....and nobody says " hey we are big bad Russua we fight our own wars"

Obviously I would not be allowed to think that in Russia. I get that

I am also still worried about the Wagner group. They seem to pop up everywhere..Syria, other places in Africa...Sudan???

    It seems worrying

You don't think they could start a coup in Russia...taking it even more to the edge.

The Met getting a lot of flak rightly for our latest step towards fascism. Feel sorry for individual coppers who signed up to do a tough job thinking they’d be doing something worthwhile and now they’re essentially henchmen for the BNP.

Peacefully protesting middle-class children who had pre-authorised their right to be there with the police and got arrested for holding up inoffensive signs so a family of nonce defenders could pass by in a gold carriage with only sycophantic serfs cheering them on.

There's a time and a place for republicanism protest, and that time was 230 years ago, and the place was France.

Joking to one side, it's bonkers. I'm about as pro-royalist as one gets, and its a rather worrying precedent.

Most people don’t really care about the monarchy either way. A good way to push people towards republicanism is to criminalise it.

I'm not so sure most people don't care - I think the support is there. But agree very much with your second point.

The problem has been created by the protesters themselves. Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil etc are happy to break the law, citing The End Justifies The Means.

Aware of this, as soon as the Old Bill sees protesters carrying chains, they not unreasonably assume the protesters are preparing to break the law and "lock-on". The more "extreme protesters" flagrantly break the law, the more suspicious and less tolerant the police will be of all protests.
