Anything over on your side of the water to beat the Weld horse? Far from a betting proposition for my liking in a race of its nature but she looks a very smart one indeed.
My ante post ew for this back in August was Queen Me at 50/1. She has done nothing since to enhance her claims and she is bottom rated by Timeform at 113 whilst the fav is top rated on 128p. That pretty much makes mine a no hoper. I'm curious as to to why there is doubt about her staying the mile. For me, by Dubawi out of a Frankel mare, I would have thought she would improve for the step up in trip. Tahiyra is all the rage but we have seen no evidence of how she has progressed from 2 to 3 and she could find one or two more forward, in particular Remarquee. Queen Me finished in front of Mawj last year and also beat her further than did Meditate and Tahiyra but she is, at the current price of 33/1, 3 times the price of Mawj, 5 times the price of Meditate and about 20 times the price of Tahiyra. If she has progressed at the same rate as those 3, I think she is over priced, and underrated by Timeform. But I suppose I'm talking bollocks, as usual
The first at Newmarket looks a tight affair my preferance is for francesco clemente travels well here the conditions are an unknown but having taken 6s (11/2 gen) i will jus keep.my fingers crossed . I could not get involved with the fav at 5/4 who is yet to even try the course
I was very suprised to get 14s ew on torcello in the second with 5 places , 12s gen but 11s with 6 places available. The conditions will be fine the course is fine . Lycett puts Fanning back in the plate , Fanning won on torcello over 12f here under soft conditions leading from start to finish . Torcello loves to run from the front and if they get a good run they may be hard to catch .
Newmarket 300 Mrs Sly (i love the name lol) is in great form so the 15/2 on offer with wh looks great for Astral Beau , Astral just took a listed event at Donny in hvy conditions over 8f , Hornby was in the plate for that win . Kelly has been given the job today there stats read 9 runs 4 wins 2 places , so i have no concerns on conditions or Mount . At Newmarket the stats read 3 wins from 3 rides , the distance is the unknown but watching a few races i would say Astral has it in the tank . Win only for me
Bet365 sent me a “free” bet on the 1000 Guineas – to the value of a bet on the bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes at 1:15. So ostensibly they are trying to persuade me to put money on Derby winner Adayar to win on debut (he is the best horse in the race with the second best horse having to concede him weight) so that I can then put the free bet on Tahiyra in the fillies’ Classic. I got a reminder email for Queen Me on my watch list but she has no chance of getting a mile on soft ground; and she did not win at Ayr after placing in the Lowther to get in the notebook. But good luck to Ron with his ante post. With the going having gone Soft at HQ, it is really a no bet card for me. I will have the notebook out for the Pretty Polly and the Dahlia. I am surprised that there is no Stoute runner in the Dahlia as he normally has something in Cheveley Park’s colours at least. When Tahiyra won the Moyglare in a common canter, the 1000 Guineas instantly became a one horse race with her being a half-sister to classy Tarnawa. I noticed on Saturday that the bookies could not give away Meditate – whether that is because of O’Brien’s Saturday runners, because her best form is on quick ground or both, I do not know – and the one that was noticeably shortening was the Godolphin/Appleby second string Fairy Cross (has won on easy ground). There is no doubt in my mind that Tahiyra will go to the Prix de Diane if she is successful as there must be stamina doubts for The Oaks (not entered) on the sire’s side of her pedigree (Arc winner Sottsass is Siyouni’s only big stakes winner beyond ten furlongs). Some will be attracted to her ante post for the Arc as a three year old filly but not me.
Newmarket 14,25 Running Lion 10/3 WH, 3/1 others 15,40 Karsavina 50/1 e/w bet365, PP and betfair four places, 40/1 sky five places
Soft ground first time out over a mile? I see she won on soft in September. I’ve put the Beckett horse - Remarquee - in an ew multiple but the fav should be hard to beat. It’s not like Weld wouldnt have her fully tuned for a Classic.
Newmarket - 1000 Guineas Stakes - One Mile - (15:40) In the hope that selection will handle the soft ground better than Charlie Appleby's two runners yesterday in the appalling weather, am hoping that the very well-bred Shamardal filly (Damsire: Galileo), Dream Of Love, will manage the current conditions and run a big race. She did manage a decent third on soft ground at Newmarket last October in a Listed race over one mile. William Buick has chosen her over the other Appleby filly. Feel that Buick has quite a task on his hands, as he'll have to hold her up for a late run to get the mile in this ground, but he's the guy to do it, if it can be done. 15/2 (Bet365/Wm.Hill) best price at time of writing. E/W best option. (Prices from Oddschecker)
Afternoon all, One I quite like is WICKYWICKYWHEELS in the 205 Hamilton. Won there about 5 times last season and think he can go close again today. Around 8/1 so will play safe and go ew. In the big one I had already backed MAMMAS GIRL and she she’s drifted out to 9s.
Caernafon for me in the 1000 guineas 25s proven at c/d conditions will suit 25s ew 4 places with 365 looks very fair
Weld's wonderhorse is all the rage in the 1000 Guineas but I do like a nice Ralph Beckett filly and Remarquee will do for me
