My earliest recollection of the Tigers on black and white TV was on Anglia Television when they played away at Northampton Town circa 1964/65.
Rochdale away May 1983. Division 4. Already promoted, lots of fancy dress. Freddie Starr as Hitler dancing on top of the dugout at full time after a 3-1 win. Great time to be a City supporter.
Everton v Hull City FA Cup 3rd Rd replay, the highlights were shown on either ITV or BBC late at night, January 1964.
Don't need an 11-nowt win! Luton 0-6 City Watford 0-6 Stoke Voila - we pip Watford for lucky 13th spot.
I think it was on the BBC's weekly sports programme - I only remember seeing John McSeveny's amazing goal and then Brian Labone clearing one off the line before they broke away and scored the winner.
Yes I recollect he was! As a side story I talked ( via Anglia TV FB Group) with one of Anglia’s Outside Broadcast Team who told me they used to enjoy coming up here from Norwich to cover City’s matches as they got paid more for their overnight stay at the Royal Station Hotel and enjoying the delights of the Earl de Grey pub rather than the day coverage around Suffolk and Norfolk. They also got to have a beer with some of City’s players.
I think they’ll rest players, half of ours won’t play because they’re not going to be here next season, the other half have little to play for. Might use some kids. I expect a loss or a draw. If we win, then Luton will go into the playoffs with a bad result, which they won’t want, but I don’t think it’ll affect them too much. Luton v Middlesbrough final & I fancy Boro to go up, but wouldn’t be surprised by either team TBH.
I can see Simons playing as well as maybe Taylor at CB, Docherty unless he is going to be out the door as well as Woods. Ingram might be in goal, so yes I also expect a few changes. PS. THIS IS MY 20,000 POST, I JUST LIKE TO SAY IT HAS BEEN A GREAT PLEASURE TO BE PART OF THIS FORUM, GOOD BANTER AND ENJOYABLE DISCUSSIONS. LONG MAY IT CONTINUE.
I'm not seeing a win tomorrow, but games like this always seem throw up a few surprises. I would expect to see a debut for Alfie Taylor at some point and probably either Ingram or Lo-Tutala in goal. -----------------Ingram--------- ---Coyle--- Macca ---Jones --- Greaves ------------Simons-------Docherty----- Vaughan-----Traore--------Longman ------------Allahyar----------------- Subs: Lo-Tutala, Elder, Taylor, Ebiowei, Tufan, Slater, C. Jones I think is what we'll see. I put C. Jones on there because I think it's likely either him or Jacob will come in as it's a dead rubber, but also Rosenior is one of those managers that won't do it for the sake of it and there'll be enough quality in there to try and win the game. Be nice if Elder played so he could wave farewell. I'd like to see more of Longman, I think he could be a good player for us next season.
I do recall a brief peice about City on BBC's 'Sportsnight' with David Coleman or Frank Bough in about 65. Might have been 66. I stayed up especially. We were the club, apparently, 'going places'. Hmmhhh.
