I couldn’t believe this. Liverpool and their disgusting fans have really plummeted in my opinion. Maybe we should make a point of booing You’ll Never Be all Alone from now onwards. I’m not the strongest Royalist but this is truly disgraceful. bunch of bastards. I’ll be backing Man Ure in their northern derbies from now on. https://news.sky.com/video/share-12874831
Playing the national anthem could be viewed in the same manner as taking the knee is, an unnecessary politicisation of football. The reaction at Liverpool due to the politics of fans there was always going to be different to the other 92 clubs.
had i had been there, no way would i have booed our anthem but then neither would i have sang it, the royal family are of no relevance to me at all, when we have familys living in one damp room and going to food banks, yet we can sp''nk 100 mill on a coronation, sorry but it does not sit well,
Regardless of our individual views on the monarchy and the coronation of Charles are we really a confident democracy when we resort to these methods? https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...arrests-republic-met-police-b2333719.html?amp
So anyone who has different views to you should be sent to another country? , a healthy democracy allows debate and peaceful demonstrations are healthy, not something to be frowned at.
Really? Our national anthem is sacred to our national identity. I said in my post I’m not the greatest Royalist but booing the national anthem (to me) is like pissing on poppy wreaths at Remembrance Sunday. I’ve also said on numerous other posts about my dislike of the current government and also Brexit, but my nationality is sacrosanct and shall not be insulted by anyone - least of all my own ‘brethren’.
The National Anthem not the monarchy I doubt that those were booing due to some genuine British Republican desires. I would guess they did it due to an inbred hatred of our country probably inherited via family indoctrination over generations from Irish Republican origin. Disclaimer: I could be wrong, but I’m probably not.
I’m pretty sure their axe is with the establishment, which both the National anthem and the monarchy represents. I’m not saying I agree or disagree with them, but I wouldn’t criticise them for having, and stating a view
I respect your view, it’s obviously very dear to you. I’m just saying in a confident democracy we shouldn’t be afraid of others holding a possibility equally passionate view.
I get this WoaC. I’m not totally comfortable with the monarchy either. However our National Anthem (to me) represents our nation and everyone in it. It’s like the flag. People have served and died under the flag and they didn’t necessarily agree with the cause they died for. I was particularly against the last Iraq war - but I have the absolute respect for the soldiers who fought in it and would never slander them by spoiling the flag or booing the anthem.
I wouldn’t boo either, but im sympathetic to anyone having a different view, and im willing to listen and try to understand their rationale, as I said previously the articles I’ve read suggest it’s due to their dislike of the establishment’s reaction to Hillsborough, if that’s the case there’s no suggestion they did it to disrespect our troops.
not a good look is it, arresting people before they’ve done anything?Wow !! https://apple.news/A4xxphe_qQ1m_3SBXgCq2AwWhat
I think that was an unusual reaction to the security scare earlier in the week. I think it spooked the police - who, let’s face it would be blamed if anything went wrong. My opinion only - no evidence.
I get their in a difficult position, it comes with the territory I guess , given the powers to do it .in the circumstances I can see the temptation from the police’s perspective to do it, what I don’t understand, and frankly it scares the hell out of me, that someone (the government) saw fit to give them the powers, & to rush them through. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I don’t blame the police for using the powers, because as you rightly say they were between a rock and a hard place, I blame the government for rushing the powers through to enable the police to do it. maybe I’m just an old cynic, it feels to me the government did it to cover their own backs. By rushing it through they were forcing the issue, they’d have been the first to criticise the police had they not used the powers and there had been trouble, on the other hand if, as they did, the police used the powers it’s the police that are being criticised. Either way the government aren’t having to take the flack .
Do you think City fans will boo at QPR game? Coronation of King Charles III This weekend, the EFL comes together as we celebrate and recognise the Coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III and the Queen Consort. To mark this momentous occasion, we will be playing the national anthem ahead of kick-off
