Superb, hadn't realised the whole service was done by auto cue using pocket full of cards to read from..clever.
Currently in Wetherspoons at Hawick on my way south for the Preston game. Some of the Spoonies are glued to the TV and some sitting with their backs to it .... ... one woman just asked if they could turn the sound down because the noise is upsetting their children. Not the best place to take little kids on a Saturday love The event is world class BTW, whatever you think of it.
Proud to British and a proud Veteran today. H M Armed Forces were magnificent today. GOD SAVE THE KING
The only beef I have with this is I'm all for history and tradition and I know we have to move with the times but Charles should not be being crowned King after marrying camila, his great uncle had to give up that right for doing the same. The royal family are so adamant that tradition be kept the way it has been for years. The fact the Queen stated after her death camila would be titled Queen consort and that title was to remain after Charles's coronation, however he has gone against her wishes already. I'm not a royalist but do believe we should have a royal family, however if it was William and Kate I think I'd probably be paying more attention. I just think Charles and Camila are there through default, a bit like when we got promoted after being beaten off Swindon in the play off final
He hasn't gone against the late Queen's wishes. Queen Consort is the official title of any woman who is married to the King, so Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother was Queen Consort when George VI was alive. Its just we'll stop saying consort because we won't need to differentiate between the Queen and Queen Camilla.
Same as you mate, can’t see why they can’t pay for it, so it costs a billion, take it out the other billions you have, honestly I don’t mind if you do
I thought the Coronation was magnificent. We are the only country with a monarch that still crowns our monarch with such ceremony. If we get rid of that, we've lost a thousand years of tradition. The fact that it hasn't happened for 70 years makes it even more important as it allows a generation who've never seen it for themselves a chance to have their own coronation experience. If you paid attention to the ceremony you'll have seen that even though it adhered to that 1000 years of tradition, the current monarch also wanted it to reflect modern Britain. It emphasised that the King serves the British people, rather than the other way around, and it also reflected, perhaps more subtly, that the King does not like to see inequalities in society (despite what people think about his position and what it signifies). As for the cost, the upper estimate is a £100 million cost to the taxpayer. When you consider that in 2017, the Royal Family are estimated by Brand Finance to have brought £2.2 billion (1.75 billion an average year) into the British Economy, that's a drop in the ocean. William and Kate's wedding brought in an estimated £1 billion so the Coronation, a bigger event, could well bring in more. The 100 million that's been spent has mostly been spent with British suppliers, who'll all be taxed on that, so it's a boost to the economy anyway.
