The first single I ever purchased with my own money - it was the sax accompaniment that turned me on ! We did't even have a record player at home at the time - had to take the 12" 78 (or was it 33 1/3 ) rpm disk round to a mate's to air it. (edit; just googled it - was on a 10" 78 rpm shellac disk). Bloody 'ell, where did those 65 years go ?
Never had a problem buying 5 Park Drive or Woodbines at the local tobacconist's/newsagents back then ! A couple of years or so later the local Beer off-licence opened up new pleasures for us teenagers. No such thing as health and safety in those days. Romping in the long grass or grappling behind the bike sheds soon entered the orbit Hessle "recca" opposite Darley's on Boothferry Rerd .
scary, isn't it? the thing about it that nobody seems to comment on is its opening lines - "i'm so young and you're so old". did that chat up line ever work?
