Given the choice, I think we'd all choose Tino and Charly from those four. Can't blame Perraud, wish him the best. Sulemana will just sit on the bench wherever he goes. Thinks he's better than he is.
Livramento & Alcaraz staying would be inrecible. Perraud is disappointing, but probably one of our better players this season (not saying much, I know) Not fussed about Sulemana, been pretty disappointed so far.
Thing with Perraud is I don’t think he has been terrible, but he hasn’t truly broken into the side in the PL. In the Championship he is pretty much our nailed on first choice and if he has a good season there he might get a better move or build on that form with us, don’t see the logic really. I don’t agree with other people about Sulemana being poor, he hasn’t really had a chance but when he has been on he definitely causes the opposition problems, could see him being very good in the Championship and don’t see what the club would gain by loaning him out.
Interesting thing to note is we are already working on moves away for players that could be hard to shift, Orsic being one of them, and with a couple more like Diallo and Djenepo then perhaps we could trim this squad quite alot. Only recruit a few players, leaders for example.. and maybe 1 or 2 Youngsters. But I don't think we really need a massive overhaul that has been said.
Sulemana Looks exciting at times, but honestly I've lost count of how many times he has chosen the wrong option; namely trying to take the defender on rather than just playing a simple ball to someone in space. Has no final product either.
The irony of the article now is that our players will be playing for moves away, so we will probably win the next 4 games and stay up.
In fairness to him, he did in the game against Newcastle - setting up Stu's goal. But he needs time. It's way, way, way too early in his career in this country to be judging him. I'd be delighted to keep Charly and Tino, and I'd really like to keep Sulemana as I think he'd benefit massively from a year playing in the Championship. Those three should be priority keeps. Would be a shame to lose Romain, but there are going to be some over and above JWP, ABK and Lavia that we'll lose that would rather keep.
Some choice other points from that article - Alex: Numerous Premier League sides are interested in McCarthy next season and there is a growing feeling he will look for a fresh start elsewhere. KWP: Walker-Peters changed representation last year, moving from YMU Sport to CAA Stellar and joining close friend Dele Alli’s agent and brother, Harry Hickford. Walker-Peters, 26, fulfilling the homegrown quota plus his aptitude to play in both full-back positions makes him an attractive proposition for Premier League sides. Several suitors have continued to monitor the defender after talks regarding a new contract at St Mary’s stalled last summer. Everton were interested but financial restraints and league position made a move ambitious, while Manchester United and Arsenal kept tabs. With two years left of his deal, it is the optimal time for Southampton to sell. Bree: Still, he was a low-cost, low-risk signing and is viewed as a good character and one of the few, pertinently, who has Championship experience. Lyanco: Lyanco’s future will only be discussed at the end of the season despite the player’s representatives fielding concrete interest from a side in Europe and in his homeland of Brazil in January. Southampton rejected those proposals then but could be open to Lyanco, 26, moving on now, with the centre-back mostly out of the starting XI since Jones’ sacking. Beddy: The Poland international still has two years left on his contract and even if there is expected interest from sides in Europe, Southampton would do well to keep him. ABK: Interest from Europe’s bigger clubs has been mooted and will only intensify in the approaching months. DCC: Caleta-Car, 26, may benefit from inevitable player turnover this summer, however, with the future of the other five centre-backs in doubt. The Croatian has three years left on his contract. JWP: At 28 years old, it is the right time, and there is an expectation he will leave and the club will not stand in his way, provided they are content with the fee. Diallo: Club open to offers. Lavia: Numerous Premier League sides have held informal talks and scouts, who have been in attendance over the past month at St Mary’s, have left impressed. Theo: No talks have taken place between Southampton and Walcott over a new 12-month deal. Stu: The Scotland international’s experience may be useful next season, but questions over his availability could lead to Southampton being prepared to let him go if the right offer comes in. Lucy: All parties are considering their options before deciding whether to renew. Orsic - Unless the landscape changes drastically, the 30-year-old Croatia international will aim to find a move away from St Mary’s. Edozie - Edozie will be one of the players keen to find out who the manager will be next season. Aribo - Aribo will have to hit the ground running in pre-season to work his way back into contention and fulfil the promise that first attracted Southampton when he was at Charlton Athletic. Sulemana - Industry recruitment sources, who have experience brokering deals abroad, suggest Sulemana may initially go on loan in Europe in the event of relegation. But Southampton rate Sulemana highly after tracking him for several years and will view him as a player of considerable worth playing in the Championship. Talks over his future will take place at the end of the season. Adarma - Fortunately, relegation and a return to the Championship is being viewed as favourable in Armstrong reestablishing his form and confidence. With Southampton needing a goalscorer, the striker will have an opportunity to prove his worth at a level where he was previously successful at Che - Adams’ full focus remains on this season and keeping Southampton up, however unlikely that may seem. He will enter the final 12 months of his contract in June and will assess his options once the campaign is at a close. The striker appreciates Southampton giving him an opportunity to play in the Premier League when they signed him four years ago, which will be taken into consideration. There will be interest from other Premier League sides, some of who first monitored Southampton’s openness to sell him last summer, but his future will soon become clearer as talks with the club’s hierarchy are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. Sekou - Mara has struggled to settle at Southampton, with a move away not ruled out. The 20-year-old has had sporadic game-time this season, scoring two goals in all competitions. No talks over his future have yet taken place, although a year in the Championship may not be the worst thing for his development. TP - Southampton will find it difficult to recoup the £18million they spent on Onuachu just over three months ago, so will hope he can be effective next season under a different coach. Tella - Tella is extremely content living in Manchester and enjoys playing under Vincent Kompany at Burnley. His contract at Southampton runs until 2025 so the sticking point will be price and extracting the highest possible fee now that Burnley are in the Premier League. Lots of guesswork in there, of course, but some interesting points.
So really the Sulemana stuff seems to be agent talk, rather than the player himself. Hopefully with a decent manager coming in and some sexy talk from Ankersen, he can be persuaded to stay. Will be gutted if Lyanco leaves. Glad to see the club want to hold on to Beddie. DCC possibly staying is interesting too.
Also, hopefully the likes of Edozie will be encouraged to stay if they see Tino and Alcaraz committing.
I think all of our CBs including Stephens would be good at championship level. I think they are all solid players at that level. The problem is they all think they’re champions league level. Will be decent to see a few of them humbled to be honest. We really need players that want to be here fighting for the club next season.
In a way, it's a shame that it looks like Brighton are getting Milner. He's exactly the type of player we could do with.
Tbh I watched the game last night and for 90 mins ++ I forgot my allegiance to Saints, BHA played really well and they fought for each other, covering spaces etc. That's the type of performance we haven't seen at SMS for far too long. It's not that it's a one off for them, they're like it every game it seems. You're right, Milner brings the attitude we could do with, anyone else in his 'league'?
Not sure if mentioned but Reading have now been relegated to the League 1. Our star striker Shane Long had a total of 1 assist and 1 goal in 29 appearances.
The only Shane Long stat that matters: Summer 2022: Shane Long leaves Southampton. May 2023: Southampton are relegated.
Also Shane Long Summer 2022: Shane Long joins Reading May 2023: Reading are relegated Maybe he can go to Pompey next.
