4 games is not enough time for us. But are you telling me over say, 8 games he wouldn’t do better than Selles.

A couple of boring 0-0 draws and a smash and grab1-0 and things might be different for us come May.

There must be a name for the thinking that takes place whenever Allardyces name comes up. Absolutely nobody wants Allardyce in charge of their club, nobody wants the Allardyce brand of football, everyone knows he’s got no cred left after his corrupt bullshit but as soon as relegation looms the name gets trotted out.

For Leeds to have slipped from Bielsa darlings to Allardyce bitches is embarrassing and I’d walk too if I was Orta. Or happily be sacked if that’s what happened.

It’s called desperation. We’re past it though.

If Fat Sam had managed Saints at any point in the season, I’d have lobbed my ST in the river

Well yeah, I don’t like him either. But our chances of PL survival would have been better with him than Selles.

Selles out for me. I think we would be an attractive proposition for a younger, dynamic manager in the championship. Gives them time to build something etc etc

What is it about Big Sam's football which is worse than what we've seen at home this season?
    His tactics?
    His team selection?
    Winning more than 2 games?

Yeah His football is poor but not as bad as the ****e we've all sat through since August

Whilst I do agree with the above, I guarantee you would have lost your **** if we had appointed him after Ralph...maybe not NJ

Yeah probably. But as the self admitted most pessimistic poster on here, even I didn't think Selles would be this bad

    Hindsight eh?

    Oh I agree.

With hindsight I would have refused to go in 1977 with my dad to the Dell to watch Saints v Norwich and stuck to supporting Liverpool as I did then as an 8 year old.

I would have been annoyed, because after poch, Koeman, Puel and Ralph it would have been a negative move. But I would have understood what they were trying to do and why.

After pelligrino we had Hughes, who wasn’t very exciting. But he steadied the ship and kept us up that season.

I’ll watch with interest to see the magical wizard effect Allardyce has at Leeds. Especially now I know he’s as good as Klop and Pep.

People joke about Alardyce but in his early days he was ahead of his time. He knows the football he serves up is unpalatable, but usually effective.

He will stink the place out, but frustrate teams and often come away with something.

Maybe a return to the championship, but playing exciting attacking football is better. I don’t know…

Allardyce is very much a manager from an earlier era but I think the current "model" for young, European coaches has generally under-whelmed. Loads of the more middling teams have tried this route but the success is never that long lasting. If you like, Selles very much fits the bill with regard to the kind of manager clubs likes Watford or Fulham employ.

I think Selles was promoted to the role of manager too quickly. He still needs to prove himself as a coach in the UK and was not ready to step up. I feel a bit sorry for him and he has been dealt a poor hand. I would imagine that he is someone who will go back to Europe for more experience and then end up at somewhere like Watford in about five years time.

have you looked his career tho? His early career was basically Bolton and that was 20 years ago. Since Wham he hasn’t lasted more than a year at any of the 5 jobs he had.

I think what I am saying is time has moved on. His day is done, his recent record shows he hasn’t got much to offer a club and people have long memories for the short list of good stuff and short ones for his long list of failures.

I think Selles got handed a poor job and I don’t blame him at all for the current situation. Three managers but one club and one squad, if things haven’t changed much I look to the constants not the variables.

could he have tried to break the mould and stick some new faces in there, smash the ball onto big tall Paul? Sure but if it didn’t work he would have been lambasted just the same. I trust the guy to know if those players on the bench don’t have what it takes.

I don’t agree that he would have been lambasted for trying new things. The old **** wasn’t working and nobody would have complained at some buccaneer defeats as we tried out Onuachu and co… but the snivelling repetition of old mistakes is hard to bear and harder to forgive. Selles is not to blame for the squad but definitely is for the teams he put out!

Fair enough and I think most of us are sick of the same old. But nobody jumped for joy when Bree ran out, nobody has seen anything from Onuachu apart from being 6 inches taller than everyone else. How you can see the limitations of the squad but not be happy with the team selection I don’t understand. He’s been slated for replacing Lavia with Diallo but there’s no other DM. He’s been slated for picking AArmstrong but who else is there? I don’t see that he is picking awful sides, he’s lumbered with awful forwards and a lightweight midfield. And a captain who inspires nothing, creates nothing, delivers nothing.

I’m not claiming he’s anything special but I am saying Unai Emery would struggle to get goals out of this lot.
