Any idea of what is actually going on at Staplewood, nearly 2 years on from the initial plans being released? Seems like a slow burner to me
In December 2010 the club re-evaluated and submitted new plans for a far more extensive training facility than orginally planned. Plans now include the groundsman's store, spectator stand, a much larger pavilion building, hydrotherapy pools etc - all of which weren't in the 2009 plans. The planning permission was granted in March this year and building work has been taking part since the summer.
When I do an occasional blast down through the New Forest to Lepe, Calshot, etc... and back, I keep meaning to stop and have a look through the foliage. But every time I've come by, I've been enjoying the ride too much to stop.
i just take it all for granted - living over here but how much is actually done do we know? what stage are we at? how long left etc anyone know?
That's what I want to see signs of. Tbf, I'd imagine it's a bit difficult for them. I'll assume they have a finite time window in which they can do the work, as they can't disrupt the players and staff too much [don't want them getting all upset and then losing, do we] and, as I understand it, they have to knock important buildings down in order erect the new elegant replacements. Not easy. EDIT: Hang on..? You live in Hythe..! Why the hell don't you go and look for us..?
Certainly further away from Staplewood than you. It's practically on your doorstep. I live close to the Sports Centre. More trees than you can shake a stick at.
Aren't they across the road from you then..? Incidentally, I spent quite a bit of time out of Hythe a few years back. Mate of mine had a boat moored at the sailing club. It was on the furthest trot away from the club house. Think I nearly went over the side several times going out to it and coming back. Once I had to jump in to save the sinking outboard motor. That was our to-and-from workhorse. Spent the rest of the day drying it out. I wasn't laughing at the time. Honestly, football is much saner than sailing.
hythe is right on the edge of the new forest, so we still get forests, trees etc dotted about everywhere im right next to a forest coincidentally ! and yes, football is saner than sailing but im sure your laughing now - one of those moments that get funnier over time ?
Yeah, I know. I was only kidding. Yeah, I've had my fair share of moments while sailing. More than a few times I've had situations happen, between the few of us who go, where back in the pub we've either blown our cheeks out and thanked our lucky stars or collapsed with laughter. I can honestly say that sailing is one of the most rewarding pastimes anyone can do, whether it be dinghy cruising or racing, or keelboats. And it's all just 5 minutes out the door. I'd recommend it to anyone. Very character building.

Know what you mean. Don't leave the sailing too late. It's always easier if you're younger, but don't be put off if you're older too. You'll just wonder why you waited so long. I've been doing it on/off since the early 1980's and I can honestly say, I can't remember a bad day. Even the worst ones have had something in them that was immensely rewarding. The canoeing/kayaking is another thing I'd really like to do. Like yourself, I've done just a little bit, and I've always wanted to do a little more. Trouble is, it has to compete with the motorbiking, and so it's going to come in a fairly distant second place. But certainly I'm not going to wait too much longer to join a club, like Woodmill.
