Disappointing that Nige doesn't think a more experienced keeper is a priority
I don't want O'Leary to leave, just to learn from someone who is more experienced at this level, who will help him with his decisions and judgements.

Brian Clough always said the backbone of the team are the 3 most important positions, and it's hard to argue

    Keeper
    Centre Back
    Centre Forward

Get all three positions right and you've got a great change of achieving something.

Sorry, a Lincoln City striker who I've barely heard of is not the sort of quality I want for the club even if he is 'one for the future'
And up against Sunderland he'd probably chose them over us anyway.

Probably paper talk, NP has already said we are well equipped (paraphrasing) up front. We’ll probably get linked to every available L 1, L2 player now we’ve said that’s our player pool and we have a bit of money.

This policy is ok for the odd player to complement the squad immediately, and build for the future; however, if this is our main policy it shows very little ambition for me.....

We need to up the ante if we are truly committed to progress next season as the status quo doesn't fit the bill anymore. Given that we have never been a destination of choice for the more select players does that mean that we will be eternally dependent on lower league players, because if that is truly the case then we can only be considered a perennial developmental club rather than a challenger. Ambition has never been a regular visitor to BS3 and, despite all of the rhetoric over the years, I am not planning to see anything else in the near future. I know that will sound pessimistic but when you have been a long term follower of Bristol City you have become numb from all of the promises made but never kept. Nothing would fill my Bristol City boots more than to be proven wrong, particularly by Nigel, and to at least see proper action filled games played out in front of capacity crowds (27,000?) where our opponents on the day are shuddering in their shorts coming out of the tunnel to face us and the baying crowd. That may sound just a little over the top but you probably get my drift after all these years of humdrum mediocrity and lack of promise.

Did you hear of Varney, Mahrez or N’Gola before Nige signed them for Leicester? Or Sykes, Atkinson? I trust this manager to find the gems more than others.

I agree; for me, this was LJ's biggest issue; he seemed to only want 'nice guys' around the place. You need a few players who will 'mix it up' on the pitch and in the dressing room if required. It seems Nige is following suit, which I must say surprises me.

If he finds 3 that turn out to be anywhere near as good as those 3 he found at Leicester, he will go down in City folklore. I am not holding my breath, though...

**Edit** just checked, Ranieri signed Kante, not Nige.

<laugh> Stressful day yesterday so got that one messed up a bit.
Yep sorry got that one wrong. But there was a few that they signed from lower leagues back then as well.

What I was trying to say, was I trust Nige to find players more than any of us.

We all have days like that RoD.

I agree with the thrust of the post. I’m hoping now he has a bit of money, his recruits will not take as long as Tanner did , and Wilson is still doing, to settle in and adjust to the championship.

Atkinson is the only one we’ve really spent money on and he seems to have faired a bit better.
