This was a question I posed on a thread to much anger, however I believe this to be true a person who joins today for example and gets sent to afghanistan does so through choice
While they sign up of their own free will, they don't sit down and have a vote before every military intervention.
Feel free to call me dense ( I've had a lot worse ) - but as I read your post, I can't help feeling that you are implying that those families who receive their sons ' gift wrapped ' should somehow be grateful.
It should not matter why the war is being fought, or who started it or who we are fighting. The brave men and women of our armed forces go wherever they are sent. With out question. They go and fight for our freedom and for our safety, they do not ask for much in return, only that they are allowed to do that. Most earn far less than the average civilian yet draw half the pay but pay the ultimate sacrifice. They see more death and suffering than any person ever should, yet they do not give up. They carry on and keep giving. These men and women deserve to be remembered when they are dead and congratulated when they are alive. If it were not for the thousands who died in WWI and WWII we would not be the nation we are today, we would no doubt be speaking German and ruled by a dictator where we had no say in how things are done. We live a free life because of these brave people, the least we can do in return is remember them and thank them.
Of course it matters why the war is being fought sorry but there is nothing brave and honourable in wars today.
I meant that to the soldiers it matters not. I bet a lot of them disagree with the War in Iraq and the War in Afghanistan, but they still fight and die for us. They area darn sight more brave than you who will happily sit in the comfort of your warm house and bitch and slag others off from behind a screen. These men and women dont just fight with words, they fight will live bullets and live explosives. They give their lives for you and you say they are not brave! What kind of respect is that??
Your wasting your time with him Dan, some people have no respect for the people that gave their lives for them to enjoy their freedom.
respect? when have i ever said i respect them? based on your understanding of bravery, who is braver the guy dressed in sandals with a basic rifle or the guy in a armoured tank bitching about boots? I would gladly fight for my beliefs, not to make some **** even richer, whilst blowing the **** out of little kids todays soldiers are no different to whatt the nazis did
You remember when you posted a thread about EID last week and nobody **** on it????? If you had any class you would just leave this for the people that care, not cool Fan...
you cant have it both ways SN either a soldier is a soldier with no choice or they have a choice or is the blood of one set of people more valuable than another The whole poppy thing at the moment is a ploy to justify current events IMO and that is the true pisssing on the memory of those who died in the WW's only today they have sentenced a yank for torture, how was what he has done different to the killing of any person in Iraq
Raise these questions on one of your many pro Islam threads, and respect this one for people that don`t share you`re views
Like many of your contemporaries I'm not sure you grasp what Rememberance and the Poppy actually mean. It is in the first instance not political, so why do you and other bitter people with anti British or anti Western views always jump on this occasion as if it were a directed at you? Armistice day and rememberance day are simply to honour and respect peole who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
