Tom Allnutt (seriously?) at The Times is claiming that our meeting with Amorim is because he's our backup option if Nagelsmann doesn't get across the line

Honestly this sounds like Paratici's approach to transfers: see if we can get somebody on the hook quickly, then see if we can get a bite from something bigger

...however, there is an issue, namely that Amorim plays pragmatic (aka Portuguese) football and tends to prefer a 343, meaning that the two most immediate comparisons we can make is either he's either a younger version of Conte, or he's Villas-Boas 2.0 - and neither of those comparisons are exactly welcome ones

Couple of semi-reliable sources now saying that Xabi Alonso has joined the shortlist.

Another option I personally wouldn't mind, as long as he is given time and back properly.

Although I do worry that, unlike last time round, this time there are so many options Levy will panic and miss all of them and we'll end up with Gerrard.

Honestly wouldn't put it past Levy to see that as a genius idea.

He's ex-Chelsea too, which is apparently the first thing we check on a CV before interview.

Three obvious issues with Xabi Alonso

i.) It's his first season in charge, so there's less data to go on - barring his stint in charge of Real Sociedad B
ii.) Leverkusen are currently 6th in the Bundesliga, which almost makes Amorim being fourth in the Primeira Liga look better in comparison
iii.) Of course the one counterattacking coach in the Bundesliga winds up on our shortlist...

He is about the only manager I can find who is even close to being significantly bad on a statistical basis! I can't do the test properly because I don't have time to find all the data but eyeballing his performance it doesn't look good.

You lot should definitely give him a 5 year contract to confirm the theory.

Dan KP says due diligence phase has been completed and now we’ll start conducting interviews.

Nagelsmann and Enrique have already been contacted.

Kompany, Xabi Alonso, Slot, De Zerbi, Postecoglou and Amorim all on the list.

Pretty cool will most of them, would’ve liked Frank and Poch to be on the list to speak too as well.

It depends how bad he is...most managers only differ from the norm by a few percent so you need 100s of matches to get significant results. Frank seems to be about 20% worse than he should be so the 99 PL matches he has managed might be enough to be significant.

I'd be happy enough with Xabi Alonso

    Why not

It's gonna go tits up regardless whilst Levy meddling with footballing matters.

He should just appoint himself as manager since he knows it all

A few percent in elite football at the top level is huge though.

Not even a few percent. Liverpool in 2018/19 and again in 2021/22 needed just one draw instead of a loss and a few goals here or there and they would have won the league on both occasions. The impact on Klopp's overall win percentage would've been negligible, something like a 0.2% increase. That can be the difference between glory and failure.

That’s why I couldn’t disagree more when people say that managers don’t make a difference.

Tbh I’m baffled that I’m the only one that seems to be challenging @PowerSpurs on his ‘findings’ regarding data etc.

We've got 8 possibles...and you want 2 more...to be interviewed by 'I'll **** it up anyway, COYS Daniel'?

We'd be better off drawing names out of a hat. The first one who doesn't tell us to 'Piss off!' is coach until March or thereabouts...when Mason will take over...again.

Amorim is the only one that immediately sounds alarm bells, since his tactics at Sporting make him look uncannily like the continuity candidate for Conte (**** me, that's a lot of Cs in a sentence...) who got on the list because playing a pragmatic 3ATB means that, when he arrives, we can skip a couple of steps of him settling in and go straight to swapping around a few components of the squad

Lol PS gets challenged a fair bit on here tbh

He's often in the heat of a debate due to his stances.

It's all good though, keeps me updated on the finances of the club at least
