When he failed to show up for the forum, we said that he had shot himself in the foot. Today he believes that people will support him over GT? If he thinks that he is totally out of his mind.

Text messages to the local newspaper, but refuses to give an interview. What sort of way is that to go on? Frank Smith said Tuesday that he wasn't a bit surprised that Baz failed to show, so I am wondering if a text is the only way he can communicate now.

You have driven yourself into a corner Mr B. Who do you hope is going to come in and rescue you? It will not be the fans. You are a total fool.

GT doesnt need to put up with this and I would not be surprised to see him just walk away from the club with a tear in his eye

Am I alone in thinking that had it been anyone else and in any other walk of life GT would have been sacked immediately following his comments? GT was present at the fan's forum as Chairman of the football club, not as a fan, not as our mate, our hero. Washing dirty laundry in public is totally unprofessional, no matter how frustrated he might be, and like it or not his actions brought the club into disrepute. I don't think that can be credibly argued with.

He can't be sacked of course, so the only course of action open to Basini is to try to get him to resign (which maybe this public tiff is a misguided attept to do). I am getting a little cheesed off with this beatification of St Graham of Lincoln - of course I acknowledge and will be eternally grateful for everything he has done for the club; I just hope that another public spat with a 'bad man' will not end in tears for everybody concerned, and for us as fans.

Interesting point of view Harrow - one I happen to totally disagree with though. We know Watford runs through GT's blood so when he speaks for us it is from the heart. We have no idea why Baz got involved with us. The Forum was a chance for him to put that right. I do agree that in many walks of life GT's actions the other night would have led to his dismissal - and perhaps that was the challenge GT threw at him as it would precipitate clauses in the purchase contract. Maybe behind the scenes a lot goes on that we do not know? If asked which corner to place my hat - GT or BAz I have no doubt where it would be

I have in the past been a company director, although never dealt with non- executive directors. They are of course not employees of the company and should stand alone. Seeking out what should be the role of our three non-execs. I found the following.

Non-executive directors should take responsibility for monitoring the performance of
executive management especially with regard to the progress being made towards
achieving agreed company strategy and objectives. They may also act as a sounding
board for management. Rather like their audit function (see below) it is up to the
non-executives to probe continually and ask questions of management, especially
where they have particular concerns. They must continually act as a sounding board
for management, and as we have said, probe and ask questions where they have any
doubts or concerns. To fulfill this function effectively they must be fully briefed by
executives and have adequate sight of any information or documents which they
request. It is not appropriate for management to use delaying or other tactics such
that the non-executives only receive, for example, board papers at the last minute
giving them no time to consider these in detail. This may of course lead to conflict
between executives and non-executives but this is something which has to be dealt
with in any company structure. Board and other briefing papers should be full and
complete – if they are not, the non-executives should query the point accordingly.

From what we heard on Tuesday, our board are being kept in the dark about what is going on. Certainly the input from them is sometimes listened to but not always taken in. For two of them to have to read out some details from pieces of paper that they had just been given is totally against the above guidlines.

Maybe Roo it could have been sorted out internally if Bas had been straight with GT and ST. He clearly could have given them notice 24 hours before the forum that it was possible he might not make it and given them detailed information on the questions that would clearly be raised.

Good post Harrow. I too am eternally gratefull for everything that GT. has done for us in the past as a manager, but his role now is totally different. Whilst I am not overly convinced by Bassini - and, am glad to have at least one person at the club who is a real 'Football person' (GT) I do feel that any owner could have problems with having a god like figure in the background who is idolized by the fans - who take his side automatically in every dispute, and who is unsackable. Whilst it's good to have GT's steadying influence at the moment it may not always be an asset - didn't Brian Clough prove his love for Nottingham Forest by leaving them, if he hadn't done so then no future owner, chairman or manager would have had any real authority. whatsoever.

I think people are missing the point of GT's involvement. He's not there because he is a legendary football manager, or because of his business acumen. He's there because, with the greatest of respect to Timperley and Fransen, Taylor is the closest workable thing to having a fan who lives and breathes football on the board.

I see things differently to Harrow, although I agree that GT was unwise to insinuate that Bassini might have been well enough to attend. But apart from that one element of the criticism, I don't see what else he was supposed to do. What were the other options?

The most revered football man in our history coming across as a puppet for a profit-driven businessman?

An open, honest, media-friendly club legend pulling out of the fans forum and resigning without further comment?

A man who has, without exception, been at the club in an influential capacity every time we looked in danger of being a lower league club over the past 35 years, going even further than he did on Tuesday and walking away?

It's very clear now that Taylor wishes he had left eight months ago, but the fact is that he didn't. Bassini, whether deliberately or unwittingly, forced GT to choose between the above options, and IMO Taylor went for the least worst of them.

I agree NNW, but he is also there because LA insisted on it, hence the stipulation that he cannot be removed by Baz.

Attempting to read between the lines of your post (if there are any), do you think Bassini put Taylor in that position deliberately?

That would be an interesting finesse NNW, Has Baz been acting dumb to lend credence to this idea?
I dont think so that would require a thinker and a strategist! not sure Baz is that!

I think that LA originally had his doubts about Baz, and wanted to have GT, ST and JW as his insight as to what was really going on. JW was removed from the list, but LA had the situation sewn up completely as far as he was concerned.

Could have Baz tried to engineer him into walking? I tend to agree with Norway that he doesn't have sufficient up top to work that out. I rather think that he has been involved as far as we know with small one man type businesses and just hasn't grasped that for a large company you have to act differently.

Agree with that H , but he would make sure his investment (debts owed) would be protected , that is very LA!

Someone with an affinity to the club, someone who has been in the boardroom through good times and bad, and someone with business acumen who appears to support the club and has some money in his back pocket.

You don't need to be a football man to see the potential of that mix.
