It's Wednesday 3rd May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Orta backed Gracia til the end Phil Hay has made some very interesting disclosures about Victor Orta, and the goings on behind the scenes at Elland Road, in the Athletic, this morning. The former Chief football writer of the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that Orta fought tooth and nail to keep Jesse Marsch at Elland Road, and even threatened to quit, should they sack the American. It must have been a kick in the teeth then, when, in early February, Marsch was given his marching orders. Last Sundays drubbing at Bournemouth, turned out to be the catalyst for yet another change. Radz and Orta argued long and hard following he drubbing at Bournemouth, and once again the Leeds owner undermined his Director of Football by insisting Javi Gracia must go. Orta, ever the optimist stood in Gracia's corner; but the board backed Radz. The final nail in Orta's coffin was when he refused to back Allardyce, after which his tenure at Elland Road was untenable. "There was a genuine sense that Marsch would not survive until a board meeting eventually let the matter lie. Orta, the club’s sporting director, made it known to certain people that if Marsch went, he would consider resigning. A vote of no confidence in the American would be a vote of no confidence in him too, and he did not see grounds for change." "Orta, at that point, believed Marsch would hold it together, despite results suggesting Leeds were in for another dangerous dance with relegation. Marsch had been his choice 11 months earlier, his go-to after the dismissal of Marcelo Bielsa and an appointment made based on two years of analysis. He was convinced by Marsch and prepared to fight his man’s corner, with his own job if necessary." "That, in isolation, is Orta explained: a scout and a director of football with total conviction in his ideas, sometimes to the bitter end. [Following the Bournemouth game] urgent discussions at boardroom level concluded that Javi Gracia — the coach brought in after Marsch finally departed in early February, three weeks on from Villa Park — should go." "Again, Orta’s attitude differed. Gracia has been recommended by him, the solution to a fairly shambolic attempt to replace Marsch competently, and he still believed that enough points could be found under him in the four games Leeds have left." They were reaching out to Sam Allardyce, perhaps the last manager Orta would ever go for. Morning all. Pity we didn’t do all this months earlier. Given time Sam could have kept us up. The primadonnas in the white shirts would have gotten suitably kicked up the arse and certainly wouldn’t have been near Monte Carlo. Still better late than never and he might pull off a miracle in three games he has left. City doesn’t count obviously
IF...and it's immaterial I know the hammers hadn't done what we couldn't at the cherries there run in isn't great neither...citeh,scum,bees,us,foxes.. they would be right in it as well unfortunately the 4 point gap between the rest might be enough
To be fair Jammy I think forests game v Southampton is way more important than our city one. If forest lose then it becomes a real possibility that 33 points could stay up if we can somehow maintain our goal difference. If we can’t get 33 we don’t deserve to stay up
Crap form, boardroom in-fighting, players who don’t care……. If Marsch had been sacked before the WC none of this would have happened as we would have had Iraola or a decent manager in place to sort out the mess. I'm gonna focus in on what's to come as I think we all know it's been a ****show all season. I've said for months that we just don't do the basics well enough. That the players don't want to fight. No leadership from anyone. So...on to Big Sam. The things he will try and put in place are probably what is needed. He'll go back to basics, select players that do as they are told and he won't hesitate to upset those that are slacking. We've needed all those things since the Palace game. My gut instinct says it's too much to turn around. One thing is for sure though, we wouldn't have got another point if Gracia was in charge. Sam can't do much worse. If he can get back to basics and we get a huge slice or two of fortune then who knows. I'd say we stand a better chance than we did on Sunday tea time. Sounds like Robbie Keane coming in as a coach. Hope he brings his boots.
If he keeps the city score down to 6, then he's already doing better than the double figures it was likely to be. Can he get us the 4/5 points required who knows but hopefully he can.
The positive in all this could well be Karl Robinson a highly respected coach who had fall outs with owners at MK Dons and latterly Oxford Utd where he took young Bate on loan and he’s been close to player of the season before injury Think I’m right in saying that Robinson was running MK Dons when they took Bamford on loan and a certain Ian Wright did coaching for the strikers and why he knows Paddy
