What do you mean our fault? Who is the our you are talking about? Leave voters or the UK? Either way it doesnt matter. They are all consequences of Brexit. There never has been a cat in hells chance the EU would do anything but make this as painful as it possibly can be.
Crap comes as you say following any democratic vote,especially if you are looking for it, as for the question of should we be asked again wholeheartedly yes,but how about the same time from the previous one?
It was always going to be a case of waiting them out. Now that they're used to the idea, and the zealots on both sides have gone, things are beginning to get done. We're moving away from the consequences phase, which there was always going to be because all change of that size causes problems, and into the opportunities phase. Remember when the Northern Ireland matter was going to reignite the troubles and it was impossible to change the good Friday agreement? Now we've got Blair saying of course it can be adapted.
I havent used the word blame, only you have. I have used the word consequences. As I have said, and shared examples, that in my opinion it has been a bad choice we made. We have been unable to deliver it because there is another party who dont want it to be a success. That is the EU and why on earth should they make it easy for us.
And why on earth would France now want to help us keep the boat people out ... ... surely people realised turning our backs on the EEC would lead to them making things difficult for us.
WHEN is the debatable issue, like I said earlier how about giving it the same time as when we were in?
If I could see any light at the end of the tunnel, or any way it could be made to work I would. As it stands I cant see it.
There were a few hundred crossings in the year we voted to leave Europe. There were 40,000 last year.
We triggered article 50 with 9 or 10 months. They woulsnt have done that if they were trying not to do it. Covid did not equate to a 2 year pause either, might have slowed it, but wouldnt have been a full 2 years. I think you are being kind personally.
They were never going to go smoothly. The EU wouldnt be representing their member countries if they gave us everything we wanted. Then you have the EU organisation wanting to show others leaving is a bad thing and newcomers it is a good thing.
Yet another example about it being all about the instant political points available by looking like hard men rather than the long term gain of making it work. Now those people have gone, the reality is that there are plenty of normal working class people in the EU who benefitted hugely from the relationship with the UK as well as vice versa and now it's politically preferable to get back to normal. The fact is this hard man approach has brought the likes of Le Pen from crackpot outsider to opposition leader in France, hard right wingers into government in Italy etc.
