Ok so its another jewish thread, and I apologise in advance Basically the notion of atheist Jews was raised in another thread so intrigued I looked into it A study done in the mid 90's found almost 40% of Israeli Jews were atheist or agnostic (Over 30% athiest) Source: Kedem, Peri. 1995. "Dimensions of Jewish Religiosity. " Pages 33-62 In Israeli Judaism, edited by Shlomo Deshen, Charles Liebman, and Mishe Shokeid. London, UK: Transaction Publishers How on earth can they then argue Israel belongs to them because God said so? Not trying to make any points here, just genuinely suprised and for the pedantic ***** yes it is spelt wrong
This is a serious question how can you be an atheist Jew? Judaism is just the religion isn't it and to be a Jew you have to believe in God etc.
thats a bit complicated IMO as there are 2 types of Jew. basically Arab and European Then you can have balck converts etc Point is though the notion of Israel is based on GODS word
There is some argument that the zionist political agenda wants to do away with religion all together which is even stranger take God out of the equation and Israel has no basis for existence as a homeland promised by God
The ****ty God concept comes up everywhere: God save the Queen, In God we trust,... The French got it right, they ****ed off their monarchy and got rid of most aspects of religion from the state.
This, Jewish culture is similar to Arab culture. You can have secular Jews, who follow the traditions just because they're used to them, not necessarily because of religion.
Yes, but nationality is a construct and these people identify with that construct. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their faith
what??? FYI athiesm in the US is not as widespread as some think in comparison to other countries some stats say 10% ish
