Neve should make an excellent midfielder. She's good on the ball and loves a tackle. Against Bristol though, she looked a little unsure of her position and what was expected of her. As you say, she's wasted at CH, but when Keira Ramshaw returns, I would imagine that she would be the more advanced of the midfield 3. Neve could play alongside her, but they will need to sign another ball winner in there. Neve used to play wide left and was very useful cutting in and got her fair share of goals. She could revert back to there to give Ejupi good support. We need pace up front if we are going to persevere with the ball over the top. I'm not convinced that we currently have it.
The two signings we have made are quite decent and I'm not too bothered about losing Dodds or Kelly. I'm gutted about losing Neve Herron though and it's made worse when you look at inferior players on the retained list. I can only imagine that some team higher up the pyramid has come in for her. I don't know why we haven't given Abby Towers a new contract either, unless her injury was so bad she was unlikely to return. If we've lost Neve because we haven't offered her a decent contract, then heads should roll imo. Out of last years squad, we have not renewed the contracts of: Alison Cowling Brenna McPartlin Dani Brown Emma Kelly Neve Herron Nicki Gears Tyler Dodds On top of that, Esther Morgan has returned to Spurs and Abbey Joice has retired. Abby Holmes has been offered a new contract, but not signed yet That's 9 or 10 out and only 2 in so far. The return from injury of Keira Ramshaw is a massive boost, but major strengthening is needed if we are to avoid going the same way as Coventry last season. This is a pivotal season for us and we simply can't afford to be relegated. It's okay investing in an academy, but that will take a few years to come to fruition. We need reinforcements now.
Two good results in the league so far, following a draw with London City last week. A game which we dominated. I mentioned at the end of last season that we need to spread our recruitment net further than the regional academy, and thankfully they've done just that. We look stronger than last season in every department, particularly midfield, which was very weak. I think we've got the capabilities, injuries permitting, to push for a top 3 finish, which would demonstrate genuine progress. Well done recruitment team and the lasses on the pitch.
