It shouldn’t be horrific, but sadly misogyny is so ingrained I can’t see a bunch of football players following a woman (just yet). With time and the success of women’s football probably one day.

In all seriousness though Saints don’t need a trail blazer right now.

Women all over the world have shown they can lead countries so no reason they couldn't lead a football team. Still there's little to no chance of a woman coming into lead the team at the level we are at not for misogynistic reasons so much as lack of experience. Until women professionals have had the time in the game to build up experience they will be at a disadvantage. Selles is perhaps a great example of this. Undoubtedly got a great knowledge base and understanding of the game after 10 years, a manager that the players like and seem to respect but no experience to draw on in the dugout. I'm not aware of any women working as assistants in the EPL and Championship let alone as managers in the men's game currently but I'd be interested to know if there are.

These figures are wildly optimistic. I wouod be shocked if we got anything above £15 m for JWP. He has been pour for two seasons , is 28 and does not get many goals from beyond his free kicks. If he goes to Spurs, I would imagine that this would be considered an under-whelming signing for their fans. I agree that Lavia will an attract the highest fee and would tend to suggest that the fee you are suggesting for KWP is a bit light. Other than that, I think the market value for most of our players is going to around the £10-15m mark with some like DCC and Lycano perhaps having even less appeal. I would also concur with the theory about getting players in on loan.

I think that the three relegated teams will be Saints, Leicester and Leeds. Of those three teams, I feel Leicester will get automatic promotion next season. They need to re-build but they have pedigree when it comes to promotion. I would worry about Everton getting relegated as they would probably be in the promotion hunt too. However, I still think that won't happen. From the perspective of next season's rivals for promotion, I would tend to favour Leeds and Forest as the other two for the drop.

Next season will be tough and I feel that the squad will be unrecognisable from the one that is getting relegated.

If no one is going to offer more than £15m for JWP then it's safe to say he'll be playing for us again next season, because there's zero chance we will sell him for that.

    Doubt we'll accept under £40m

Laughable that people genuinely think £15Million get you anything now.

Wouldn't even bother reading the suggestion unless it's minimum 25/30 million

You’re beginning to make me feel more optimistic that we’ll be challenging at the top of the Championship <laugh>

Sign a CB, DM and a striker and that’s a pretty decent team for that league, but I think we’d sign more than that anyway.

As others have said, it’s the managerial appointment that’s most important. Third time lucky? SR can’t get it wrong again, surely…

Whilst we wouldn't sell him for anything nearly as low as £15m it would be nice if he scored another free kick or two in the last 4 games and put in some performances to boost his appeal a bit and remind teams what he can do.

The only good thing about keeping Selles until the end of the season is that it gives them plenty of time to appoint the next manager. There's simply no excuses to fail to find a good fit this time.

When does Wilcox actually start with us? Conversations need to be happening asap with regards next season and the managers we will be looking at. The sooner we can bring in the manager, the sooner the rebuild can begin and presumably those managerial discussions can't happen until Wilcox is in the door.

One would hope that some serious discussions are happening now.

I can't remember the football documentary but there was a lower-league club that employed a new manager with about 8 or more games to go and his first conversation was 'Well you know you're down don't you so we need to start planning for next season now'. I'm sure outside of the media and fans the manager, board and players are having similar conversations.

The problem being that the person making the football decisions for next season is currently employed by another club. I have no idea how strict the rules are about what he can and can't do for us before he technically starts with us. But agree that we could really do with those discussions already taking place.

    Some caveats though…

Can Mara and Paul deliver in the Championship
Can Adarma return to form or is he broken
Diallo? Jury’s out on him even at a lower level
Does this form an actual team eg How do we play with Paul up front as opposed to Tella up front?

    EDIT: Another couple …
Can we get Stu fit enough to play regularly for 90 mins?
Will Lyanco’s level of bonkers work at a lower level ( I really hope so)

    - I'd say Mara and Paul will be fine in Championship.
    - Not so sure about Adarma. Depends what style we play.
    - I don't rate Diallo, and would prefer we replaced him.
    - No, this isn't a proposed first eleven; just an indicator of the level of players we'll hopefully have at our disposal.

True, it’s not a terrible place to start from
All then rests on a new manager adding the right signings and turning us into a functional team

Burnley spent about £20m to £25m last summer, and pretty much put together an entire new squad with that (I think only about seven players from their PL squad have been part of their team this season).

That sort of spending might be big for the Championship, but it's only a fraction of the money they received from selling Pope, Collins, Cornet and McNeil (not to mention Wood six months earlier). And that, in turn, is potentially only a fraction of the money we might be bringing in from our sales. A sizeable number of players left Burnley on a free transfer - Mee, Tarkowski, Bardsley, Pieters, Stephens, Lennon - thereby limiting their transfer fee intake.

So we'll probably be bringing in more money than Burnley, and with a need to acquire fewer new players with that money.

(They did go and spent a bit more in January, but they most likely would have still been promoted even if they hadn't.)

Yeah I think CGT's point was that even without any signings, we have the makings of a competitive team (assuming we lose the players we think we will). So we should be optimistic that with signings and considering budget, we can be one of the top sides in the Championship.

It's a sign of how poor teams have been in the PL this season that we are still hanging on for survival by a thread. You'd imagine the results (maybe not Leicester) will go our way this weekend, and if so, a win at Forest leaves us three points behind with nine points to play for. Lose and we are nine points behind with nine to play for and we can change the title of this thread.

I don't think we'll win, but it shows the lack of quality in the bottom five teams that we're still in the fight despite having been so bad this season.

    - Manage him well, and Stuie can be a very useful squad player.
    - Lyanco will be good enough. Think his passion will be a big asset.
