This is exactly the kind of position we need to engineer. Plymouth will be desperate to buy him so we should offer him an extended contract ... ... it's time it was Sunderland holding players/clubs/agents to ransom rather than the other way round. If they really want him they can pay top dollar while we make the details known ... if Ipswich offer more he can go there.
Agree with what you are saying. I can't see Matete getting a game at our place but it seems that he's not getting that much game time at Plymouth either
Where foes this AN and Stoke talk come from? He would be off his head to sign for Stoke because of AN, can't see him being in the job this time next year!
How and why ? He has continued to perform to the level he has played at. He has been excellent for us, a main reason we are were we are today.
Think the injury has really put a spanner in the works. All sorts of different types of negotiation will be in play.
The players have been fantastic, it has been an amazing season and could finish incredible i am not knocking them but we should have signed a couple of tall defenders in January and our corner situation was not resolved have we scored from one in 45 games? conceded too many but why not spend a bit and take a chance 3 months ago, i reckon Millwall and Blackburn will draw and we will win next Monday, unless the ref has a final go at us.
Tremendous performance yesterday considering and coming back from 2 - 0 speaks volumes. Just a thought on the corners and the lack of height at the back for us. I would have had a player on each post. Object there maybe to make their target area smaller to hit. I think their second goal could have been cleared with a defender on the post. Maybe even a third defender in the middle of the goal so to release Patto to go out and claim the ball. Most times a goalkeeper gets well protected when moving for the ball. The ball is up in the air long enough and Patto is a big lad. I get the argument that putting players on the post means you’re not marking their players but very rarely does the opposition put all their players in the box. If they did just leave one of ours on the halfway line. Just felt yesterday we were waiting for the inevitable to happen. Not a criticism but just an observance. Our amazing season rolls on to Preston. We are going to do this and move into the playoffs. HTL!!!
I think with the amount of Worldies we are scoring the lads are taking the p*ss out the EFL. F.ck me that Roberts goal was unbelievable. Not in contention for goal of the season that is already decided
Taller than Ballard, Batth and Alese? All 9f which got injured after January! **** me you are unbelievable! Not signing a no.9 yeah fair enough Stewart was injured with the window open, but tall defenders ffs!
I had the exact same thought about a player on both posts probably Roberts and Amad as its highly unlikely either of those would win a header from an opposition corner. We would have definitely kept out the second goal and possibly the first. I can't help but think back to that last gasp pen for Hull on Good Friday. I thought then it would cost us just praying a result or 2 goes our way. If it doesn't though so be it been a hell of a season with little expectation at the start and above all has been thoroughly enjoyable.
Anyone who couldn't see how good Ekwah was yesterday really just doesn't understand football. There us a lot more to come from this lad IMO and he already looks to be the kind we need in midfield, and have needed for a bit.
No, he is an excellent player, and getting better. But he has a pretty bad injury, and even with that he still hasn't signed a deal. I doubt there are many who wouldn't want him here. But that's not enough if HE doesn't want to be, and I suspect he'd have signed by now if he did. He is gambling on getting back fit and scoring pretty well straight away and that might happen. But if it doesn't his options will shrink rapidly . The club need to look after themselves first, and must get a couple of decent quality forwards in this summer. If the player wants to stay, he'll stay, but the club comes first.
I don't think he will sign new deal. He will hope to bang the goals in next August and be away by end of the window. The owners will have taken note that we sort of managed without him and still scored a lot of goals. I think any half decent striker would score goals in this team with the service. Having said that I would like him to stay but only if he signs new deal before next season starts.
I don't think it's about assumptions, I think it's about planning for every eventuality. This season has demonstrated that we need a plan if Stewart signs a contract as much as we need a plan if he doesn't.
I'd like him to sign, but if he thinks he can get more money At Stoke or Boro then good luck to him. These injuries have made the transfer and the contract situation complicated. I think he'll go in Jan
