Next year's championship looks ridiculously hard when you consider any of the three coming down from the current bottom five of the Premier League all have deep pockets even before their parachute payments come into play. We may not be fighting relegation with Liam's bore draw tactics, but we won't be in the playoffs either.
and enormous wage bills as well talk of Everton not having relegation clauses in place for signings before this season
Who might be the basket cases this time? Or at least who would struggle the most and why? I might be wrong, but I'm not sure there will be one this time (out of Southampton, Everton, Leicester, Leeds, Forest). Meaning, I think any of those 5 would be in good enough shape to bounce right back. Hopefully I am wrong!
And I remember the same for years. Never knives in my memory. It’s more of a modern day thing to carry and is a problem. I really hope it’s not true as well.
Ah glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. It's easy to be wise after the event, of course, but immediately it happened I was yelling to my son asking why Rosenior had done that. And then the goal came. Not necessarily cause and effect but I don't think it helped and I still don't understand why the choice was made.
Immediately after Millwall we were joint 6th on form. Turn a couple of those draws into wins and we could well be challenging top 6. I'd be surprised if any non-parachute club genuinely challenges the automatics.
I said almost exactly the same regarding the ‘Swansea-lite’ comparison. They just did it better and quicker than us.
That's my fear. Burnley currently 20 points clear of 3rd. Sheff Utd 10 points clear of 3rd. I reckon the 3 coming down next season will be stronger than either of those 2. I hope I'm wrong.
I was with you in that Southampton pub when you were singing City songs at the top of your voice. There were only 3 or 4 of us and I slipped out sharpish.
It certainly does. Burnley, Watford and Norwich came down this year, and 2 are going to finish mid-table. Rebuild jobs are really hard and just because Burnley have made it look easy, that's not the norm
Why is Pelkas & Malcolm still getting put on the bench? Is it to justify their wages? If it was me, I’d have some kids on there. Surely with only a few games to go, it’s worth not wasting time on players who won’t be here next year. I like Doc, but don’t see him as being here in the future, unless it’s an opportunity to put him in the window.
Difficult to say. If Everton or Leeds come down they could end up right basket cases and do a sunderland. That said we have parachute clubs already in this league that you'd fancy will be stronger next season.
Everton will be all over the place if they come down, but Dyche will be their best hope of steadying the ship. Leeds, let’s hope they drop like Wednesday.
Think it's more the financial implications as they're spunking cash hand over fist and their FFP will be knackered whether they have parachute payments or not. Chuck in the rift between fans and board and the prima Donna's jumping ship, new stadium to finance and you could have a right old mess at Everton.
