Will Matete be playing for us next season or against us? Assuming we dont go up. Personally dont think we will be bringing him back but also think he never got a run of games to show his full potential.
Was just about to post that should we make anything of the fact he looked miserable as sin during the lap of honour?
Perhaps he was just pissed off about his current situation knowing he's only had a bit part in our incredible season, think my face would be tripping me up if I was in his shoes.
After the way the supporters have backed him I thought that was disrespectful. He only had to smile for five minutes ffs ... ... O'Nien showed how it should be done, never stopped smiling.
Its the morning after the day before.. Looking back at their two goals, my bet is they would not have been scored if the two Bs, Batth and Ballard had been playing. Roberts scored a great goal, but had a poor game other than that, Roker Report gave him MoM. Whatever happens in the last game and where we end up in the table, it as they say been an absorbing season, well worth watching. As for Stewart, he may stay or go but hopefully we do not put all our eggs in one (injury prone) basket next season. What the squad will be next season who knows, some young buys and some loanees no doubt. On to preston
Long long day but these lads never give up. A team with nowt to play for wasting time and feigning injury what a set of twats. We didn't play particularly well but we just never give up. Who knows could be a vital point . We move onto Preston and give it our best shot and hope results go our way. Whatever happens what a season one of the best for many years and one we should all be proud of. Well except @monty987 . Looking forward to catching up with everyone at Preston. Keep the faith lads and lasses.
O'Nien always shows how it should be done. If you watch the "Access all areas" video the club put out after the game, you'll see once again how he takes the time to greet every member of staff and all the mascots for the day. He also went over to Danny and Frankie to do a post match interview without being asked and had a great sense of perspective on the game and the season too. Luke O'Nien is a person that is far more important than just his football ability. I'd be finding a role for him here long after his footballing days. He currently does a podcast about the psychological side of football and the void he feels exists in academies. He's clearly very passionate about it and when the time comes, I hope whatever his next step is, he can pursue it here. I think he'll have a lot to offer our young players in terms of mindset and professionalism.
I thought A mad looked missed off as well but that was probably because we didn't win and he wished he could have done more. Everyone has their reasons though and speculating is just that.
Roberts did a post match interview and he could barely pick himself up to enjoy his goal, he was clearly gutted at the result. Stewart could easily have been the same. Maybe promotion solves the problem and he can stay here on a salary he deserves. Or maybe he's just disappointed not to be part of it. These should be the biggest moments of his career to date and he's not a part of it. He'll have been watching, knowing that he would have made the difference.
Tell ya what, didn't think I fully appreciated how good that Patterson save was second half. Great reactions.
He's improved so much in the last 12 months. Not sure what his ceiling is, but he's been largely excellent this season
I hope so. My assumption is that if there really was an issue with him, he wouldn't have been at the match/on the pitch for the lap. Probs reading too much into it
If he hasn't signed yet, assuming the offer is still there, IMO he won't be signing. But he is rolling the dice . He has had two bad injuries in one season, the achilles one being really bad. He should be okay, but it's a bad one for a tall forward to have. If it was my decision, I'd be getting a couple of forwards in this summer and see how it pans out, but I'd say he is getting some bad advice. He won't be financialy "set up" yet and the offer he has would probably do that. If he isn't right after he gets back, or the goals don't come, his options will be radically reduced, possibly including here. He can't be our main priority if we aren't his.
He has improved definitely. I know the distribution aspect has been an area of focus for the goal keeping coach and it's working. It's got better. Needs to make quicker decisions at times though and not let opposition strikers close the space.
I havent read all of this thread, so i may have missed it, but in all the analysis from yesterday, can we please take a moment and have a good laugh at Wigans number 11 suffering a relegation, the f**kin stupid c**t.
