I’m going, but without any hope or expectation. This will probably be the last PL game with Saints in my lifetime. A mixture of old age and apathy combine to make me assume that they are not going to get promoted in the next few years. At 73 I’m turning into a vaguely interested bystander. If Newcastle don’t win this by at least 6 clear goals, then Eddie Howe is done for. Just to make it an even better experience, I’m going with my Toon mate who still thinks we have a chance! He’s so deluded he could be a Saints supporter. Journey up and back surrounded by black and white stripes will not do my eyesight any favours. Looking forward to next season though!
There's no reason to be scared though, we've been down for a while, and losing Thursday just removed any doubt, so everything this season is now a free hit At least we'll see who's worth their place and who isn't, although I think we already pretty much know that ... Actually I'm a bit scared we'll struggle to clear out the junk we've acquired over the last few years
Hang on a minute. Just seen forest result unlucky weren't they. So if we beat castle then forest too then we can still turn this around. I don't see any problems with my maths on this I have done the numbers. A'way the saints
Jonny, your maths is exemplary. I may have an issue with your logic, aka blind optimism. We have five games left, so 5 x 3 = 15 points, taking us to 39 points. However, the points fairy left this club quite a few games ago, and the hope elf has also moved on, leaving the disappointment goblin, already laughing at our attempts to keep our collective heads above the relegation water line. But, as you say, we're not down yet, although realism is rapidly overtaking optimism. In short, I'd love you to be proved right, but I'm resigned to tasting the bitter tears of relegation. Or something like that.
Just heard a Portuguese word Saudade which means a longing for something that cannot be….like a Saints win ☹️
Massive, massive respect to you. That’s a hell of a journey to support a team which haven’t earned your loyalty whatsoever. You’re a top bloke. Hope you have a brilliant time whatever the result.
Yes agreed so the net effective is in this goblin mathematics elfish approach is (5×3)-15=0 points to be added to our existing tally!
It sinks in for different people at different times. For me the point of no return is now. 2 wins and all results our way doesn’t take us out of the relegation zone, that’s damming.
Just noticed that Napoli can win the league today with a home win over their local rivals Salernitana. 2pm kick off too. Think I’ll watch that one on BT Sport rather than this pile of drivel.
It is rather telling that the OS has almost no mention of Newcastle v Saints on its front pages, apart from a countdown clock. Instead, their headline story is about Saints 'B' team, who are champions of PL2. Still, this story is good news, for now, and for the future, but I have to admire Saints' media team trying to find positive stories, on a day when Saints have their longest journey, probably to certain defeat.
I am actually not going to watch either, we are going for a nice long walk instead. Then a pub on the way back.
