I didn't get that bit either, wasn't the quote that you originally posted on about him running actual Celtic shops as opposed to him running the Trophy Centre?

Probably but we only have a sentence in the times to refer to.

If its the case it looks like the million pound to the trophy centre was actually legitimately paid to them.

    Another conspiracy theory trashed

I've trawled through your back catalogue using an AI bot and the findings are worrying. 98% of your posts are defending noncing or refer to Sevco and the remaining 2% is asking @glazerfodder for strawberry flavoured windows.

Yes it was Lain. No mention of the Trophy centre. Just big Jim employed by Celtic to run Celtic’s shops.

I'm mocking the suggestion that the owner of a company receiving £250k from Celtic is somehow being paid through PAYE as an employee by Celtic at the same time

Because if you open your collective eyes and read what you type, this is what you are all saying.

What I can take from the original post is that he was running the chain of Celtic FC club shops. I would imagine that is a well paid job.

"He ran Celtic FC’s chain of club shops in the early 1990s and organised testimonial events for first team players and coaches, including Tommy Burns and Sean Fallon.

Torbett’s company, The Trophy Centre, had a long-term contract with the club, reported to be worth £250,000."

What you can take from this is that the £250k was payment to The Trophy Centre to run Celtic’s sales of merchandise

That isn't how it reads to me at all. I would say that the Trophy Centre thing was completely different, hence the journalist used a new paragraph.

    The Mirror January 29th 2000

"But, while he was behind bars, the profits were piling up. As a director, Torbett owns a 95 per cent stake in the company, which stocks football memorabilia."

"It now faces growing criticism, especially as Rangers have cut all ties with The Trophy Centre."

Selling tat for Celtic and Rangers

This is getting boring, I'm more than willing to surrender the argument in regards to Rangers Employee Jim Torbett

What you have posted isn't about running a chain of Celtic shops though, which is what we are on about. Or at least Aldo and I are on about it, you have just gone off on one of your mental tangents again.

    It's not mental at all.

The claim from a Times journalist is that Celtic Shops where Celtic Merchandise would be sold was run by Torbett

The Mirror shows that The Trophy Centre were the ones selling Celtic Merchandise

There are financial payments to The Trophy Centre for this from Celtic

There are no payments being reported of a salary being paid directly to Rangers Employee Jim Torbett

The Trophy Centre was obviously contracted to sell Celtic Memorabilia in a chain of shops.

Most likely because Celtic were a financial shambles and couldn't even sell tickets

"...Celtic was not terminated and the club continued to buy its stock for
its shops and hospitality gifts. It also allowed
his shops throughout the city to sell licensed Celtic goods, adding to his
    profits."

I think the allegation of Rangers Employee Jim Torbett being a Celtic Employee has been roundly disproved
