Christian Falk reckons Nagelsmann is now concentrating on the Spurs job after rejecting Chelsea. Says he’s willing to accept the job his successor, Tuchel, rejected. Wasn’t aware Tuchel rejected us tbh but decent news if true.
There was also a report last night (albeit I think from lame sources) that Monchi was on our list to replace Paratici.
I hope that Matt Law feels a bit of a twunt right now, given he was all "Well if Nagelsmann rejected Chelsea he must have also have rejected Spurs" last night Let's see if this tweet stays up...
It was rumoured that Bayern moved for Tuchel and sacked Nagelsmann because of us. We were supposedly in talks with the former, so they felt that they had to move quickly.
Couple more journos have moved onto the idea Nagelsmann would be interested in taking the job now. Must admit I thought once Chelsea were initially set on him we were out of the race. He’s been someone many of us have wanted as manager for years now, even spoke of as a Poch successor whilst Poch was even still manager, would be an exciting appointment if it does go through, so long as: We give him a significant contract length wise. Fully back him - and that’s not just about money, but going along with all decisions for ins, outs and footballing style/ philosophy.
Woke up this morning and thought to myself: All of these candidates are well and good and nice on paper, but my gut feeling is that the club needs a root and branch upheaval of mentality. And since that upheaval is absolutely not coming from the chairman or the board, perhaps it should come from the manager. Perhaps we are looking in the wrong places at the wrong profiles? As much as I dislike his football and pseudo-fascist wardrobe, would someone like Simone be what we need right now?
Fundamentally I agree with that. But I also live in fear that we'll bring in a Nagelsmann or Glasner, we'll get a few years of exciting football from a young team, we'll "nearly" achieve glory, they won't be backed properly, the weak mentality will set in again, and in four years we'll be back to square one...again. It needs root and branch upheaval which isn't coming from the top. A manager with the charisma and iron will of a Ferguson could trigger that upheaval. In a way, we need a manager made of teflon with balls of steel.
Dan KP says Stellini’s position is now in doubt, with Mason likely to take over til the end of the season. I mean I for one am just shocked that Stellini hasn't worked out…
‘Arry has also said (not for the first time too) he’d be willing to come back and help out if needed but isn’t expecting his phone to ring.
Banter FC We'll chalk this one down as another mistake that was only made due to four other clubs having more money than us. Just like: sacking Poch, appointing Maureen, sacking Maureen in the week of a cup final, taking two months to replace him, replacing him with Nuno, appointing a DoF already under criminal investigation, sacking Conte three months late, and replacing him with a worse version of himself. Yes siree, none of this would have happened if we only had more money.
I could live with the manager changing every season, as long as their balance sheet at the end is well in the black on the entertainment side.
Mason will at least have the goodwill of the fans but I fear for him. If as is suspected the players have downed tools, it could be a chastening experience and the last thing a young coach needs.
@PowerSpurs to confirm this or not as well as telling us there hasn’t been years of incompetence from anyone.
TBH I think our combinations of Manager and AssMan can be slightly to blame for this In some cases it was clear who was Good Cop and who was Bad Cop, most obviously with Harry Redknapp & Joe Jordan, but at various times we haven't got that right Stellini & Mason are Good Cop/Good Cop The ubermensch & Joao Sacramento were Bad Cop/Bad Cop Villas Boas & Freund were Not Sure Which Cop He Was Half The Time/Good Cop Obviously there's times that it still doesn't work, for example Santini & Chris Hughton were Bad Cop/Good Cop but that wasn't going to compensate for Santini being utter ****e as a manager while Conte & Stellini were Bad Cop/Good Cop but that isn't going to prevent Conte's inevitable flaming out, but getting a good balance of putting an arm around players and putting a boot up their backside tends to pay off in terms of getting that little bit extra out of players
appointing the manager that fans inside our stadium have been chanting for. I know he’s not everyone’s cuppa tea to bring back to the club, but considering the footballing mess we’re in, surely he’s got to be the least risky? almost makes sense when you think about it. But nope, that’s effectively Levy admitting he should have previously backed him and not sacked him. So absolutely no chance that’ll happen.
Hardly compares to Keithy in terms of the pain (to be) experienced at a particular trough, does it. So more real world experience on the road towards the destination Mason is hoping to reach.
