Morning, team. Hope everyone well. Not been on since the old Grand National but did we all think for a minute or two, or perhaps even for half a dozen strides, that Lieutenant Henderson was finally going to do it as Mister Coffey raced clear?!? Must confess I did. Not to be though as the 8YO tired from jumping the last and then from the elbow rolled around like a chap who had just walked from the 'Owners and Trainers Bar' after drinking half a dozen GnTs to many. Just to update the stat - since Liberthine took fifth in the 2007 Grand National Nicky Henderson's record in the big race reads -FU9U0FPP0UF0P8. Meanwhile, I see that, the first foal, of one of my all time favourite horses of all time, Lady Aurelia, won on debut, at Keeneland, by a whopping 10.5 lengths, The 2YO (monikered American Rascal) is now seemingly Royal Ascot bound. Maybe the wise thing to do is to put this one in a double with Queen Camilla winning the Carriage Race which begins the day at 2.00. The 'inside' word is that she'll go very, very close this year. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more... Good luck everyone.
And while I'm on and waffling about Royal Ascot and Lieutenant Henderson. His Ahorsewithnoname (Listed winner over hurdles last week) will be covered very, very shortly (if, in fact, she hasn't been in the last couple of days) by old boy Cracksman. The mare will then have one more run (in the Ascot Stakes) providing the word 'firm' doesn't appear in the going. He'll try, if possible, to book the best in the business, Ryan Moore. And if you get a minute have a look at the betting for The Gold Cup. Now that the '23 renewal has 'lost' the first 3 home from last term you have got seemingly Listed performers / average handicappers quoted at quite short odds! Wide open betting though and if you've got a strong belief in the race it is certainly quite 'punter friendly', in my view, right now.
