Sheff U still got a good lead and 4 home games so theirs to lose in term of 2nd but Boro will be favourites for the play-offs. Well them or Luton...
Bit of a wobble from Wrexham this afternoon - held 0-0 at Barnet, and lucky to not lose. Manager Phil Parkinson red carded after the final whistle after losing his rag with the ref and Barnet's keeper.
Unfortunately looks like Bournemouth are safe - typical Spurs! Danny Welbeck scoring for Brighton again - bet he hasn’t been injured since going there .
Strange feeling for Orient . Losing 2-0 at Gillingham and the game got delayed due to a power cut but they are promoted so celebrated mid match !
Yeovil, the only EFL club we've never scored against, lost at Wrexham tonight and followed Scunthorpe out of the National League.
At the tim Yeovil no longer the undisputed number one in Somerset, with Bath City, Weston Super Mare and Taunton Town all waiting for them in the National League South. At the time of them winning at the Vic, they were 6 divisions above Taunton Town ! A curious world in the National South where professional and semi professional meet up on a regular basis and where the authorities think it's perfectly ok. to have semi professionals travelling from Taunton to Dartford or Dover for a midweek match and getting back at 4 in the morning and having other jobs as well. Taunton in particular have been playing every saturday and tuesday ever since early February with a small squad.
Move up a division and it could be just as bad - midweek trips to the likes of Gateshead, York or Altrincham. At least they'd be spared the trip to Wrexham. I've never understood why non-League clubs have to play so many games - they all seem to enter every tin-pot little cup/vase competition going. As well as a strain on part-time players, all the travel must be a strain on club finances.
It's crazy BB. Taunton were entered for 4 cup competitions this year - one of those being the Somerset Senior Cup, which may be ok. if you actually have a reserve team but not if you only have 17 players in all. Added to that more games are postponed because of the weather at that level and teams end up with a massive fixture backlog. I think that in the National League most teams are full professional now but not at the next level (South or North) and the legal move from semi professional to full professional is a daunting one. Just as clubs like Yeovil or Scunthorpe may have to change their legal status now in the other direction.
An interesting finale to the Highland League season this weekend - with #1 hosting #2. Hard to predict a winner, but Brechin have an amazingly tight defence away from home, so I'm predicting them. Which has no doubt put a hex on them... The less said about my team, Deveronvale, the better.
Looks like Man City and West Ham carrying the English flag in Europe. Man U have been awful . 2 down and could’ve been 4/5.
There will be tears flowing in Surrey - accompanied by cries of "ten Hag out". Meanwhile, I'll be having a quiet chuckle.
Might be getting a bit twitchy now although you’d think they will feel confident of beating Arsenal on this performance- particularly defensively.
