Their point is bullshit. Regardless of what O'Nien needs to learn from his positioning or swinging at the ball, there was not contact that caused the player to go down. It's cheating, simple as. There's no grey area.
it’s not though is it. Because next time the player might not dive and be might get him instead people need to be able to differentiate that a player diving and the ref getting it wrong doesn’t mean it was a good challenge from O’Nien. It was very poorly technically executed. I hope he isn’t just blaming the ref for that and will look back at why he was swinging and missing for the ball in the box, otherwise he will be giving away more penalties in future and the next ones will be fair
He’s not “nowhere near his opponent”. He’s trying to kick a ball his opponent is in possession of. If you try to tackle a player and miss the ball you’re in trouble. this absolutely was not a pen because he didn’t get the player either. But that doesn’t make him “right”
Disappointing to be behind. We've done far better than expected though and we're not out of this by a long shot.
They're going on about his trailing leg making contact, not even talking about his front foot which was nowhere near the player when he went for the ball. His trailing leg did not make contact untill the player was already on the floor. Shocking decision, shocking cheating and language like he "bought a penalty" should be banned. There is nothing fair play about it .
THAT looked a worse decision. He didn’t give that because the lad was booked and didn’t want to send him off
Ironically that yellow for swift was soft as ****e. Ref probably watched things back at half time and wanted to duck him
