Maybe an excuse for a **** up.

There was some talk at the time, that the newer family fans were higher spending daytrippers, spending double to treble in the stadium on match days and so preferable, back when it was thought that the KC was going to be sold out forever more. But this wouldn't benefit City for away games, so it would be strange if the scrapping of away scheme was with bad intent.

Ha, yes, but I think it used to be that if you had an online membership number of under 1000 ( or something) you could get away tickets after season ticket holders but before general sale, up to around 2012(?)

Not sure about the records thing, Duffen often said what he wanted ppl to hear, rather than the facts - his reason was that the database was moved to a new one, because of the huge growth in demand, and it would have been necessary for permissions from each member of the old one to be moved over to the new and that there hadn't been enough time or consideration to do this. I have no idea if this is true or not - someone has just posted it is bullshit.

There was always something about Duffen that didn't sit right with me. Came across as a bit of a spiv. Always felt he had the potential to leave us completely in the ****. Was relieved when he sold up to you know who

Most of this thread reminds me of The Life Of Brian. Just replace Romans with City.

However, maybe complaining & arguing about it on here is a bit pointless, like most internet arguments.

Was it data protection, I remember it more being a data **** up with the new ticketing system and nobody thinking to transfer over all the old records?

Not the decision to scrap Away Direct and priority away tickets, that was just a general **** up.

I liked him. He talked up the club, the potential and the fanbase. He wasn't shy to sell the positives to everyone - yeah, he exaggerated, ignored the accountancy details and lived the high life for a couple of years, but why not - it looked like things were going to continue to grow and grow until the financial crisis kicked in and Bartlett's money supply dried up due to banks not lending against his property holdings at the time - unfortunate timing. He's always spoken highly of the club since he left, to my knowledge. The club was left in a financial hole for a bit afterwards, but in hindsight, it was worth it for those few years.

What would happen when you had a precious metal member card?

Its a great idea Chazz. If their records aren't sufficient maybe they could just ask us. Quite a few of us have been supporting the club a long time. I think im at about 50 years. Anyone know when the northern ireland v spain game was. That was my introduction to boothferry park and hull in general. Id lived mostly abroad up untill then. I think id be around 14

    Wednesday 16th February 1972.

Got the afternoon off school to go.

I was in awe to see George Best play. I just assumed he'd go on constant mazy runs and score a double hat trick.

He didn't have a very good game to be honest.

My boss was decent and let me have the afternoon off. My mate had to take a day’s holiday.<laugh>
If you look at the teams NI had some good players and 2 good subs. Forgot ref was the well known Taylor.

Just short of 20,000 there on a midweek afternoon. With a fair few, in fact a lot, they’re just to see George Best. A lot thought they would not get a chance then 6 months later here was here in the Watney Cup
