I think that’s largely because no one wants/ wanted them and in Fabio’s defence they weren’t his signings. Can’t force players onto other clubs, albeit we should be far more brutal. Threaten their future in the U23s as well as not being registered with the first team, I’d almost bet at least an extra 40-50% would’ve then left.
If Lenglet is available for a rumoured £12m I think that’s decent enough business. He’s not an elite CB but he’s probably the second best we have after Romero and he’s comfortably the best with the ball at his feet too. As for Dier, disastrous decision. Rewarding mediocrity is what’s also contributed to having a bloated squad full of deadwood. Might as well hand Lucas, Sanchez and Sessegnon new ones too.
I see Lenglet as too slow and easy to get behind. That might be a disservice due to some of the LWBs performances, but if we go to a back 4 next season, I can't see a half decent pairing out of any of the options we currently have in the squad. We need someone who will improve on what we've got, not see us stick where we are.
We absolutely need a top CB signing, who that is I have no idea because some of the previous names we’ve been linked with I’m not sure any would actually want to join right now (Bastoni, Gvardiol, Kim etc). But with Sanchez hopefully off and Tanganga surely wanting out of a situation where he plays about 4 games a season, signing Lenglet permanently makes sense from a squad perspective. More so if we do don’t go through with the Dier decision and actually bin him.
Nobody really wants to deal with us. Unless it's for an exceptional player, why would you bother? Our players are largely overpaid and over valued compared to their performances...and Daniel Levy just won't accept that 'winning coaches' can't make silk purses out of our collection of sows' ears. So we retain players who have no future at the club...season after season.
With all the evidence against him, bullishly trying to remain his job was always untenable ...wait, I thought we were discussing Dominic Raab
I don’t even think dealing with Levy is much of a deterrent for clubs (key players aside), it really is the sheer fact we’ve got so many on high wages and poor quality that you’d have to be mad to want them. No one in their right minds will match the wages we’re paying for the likes of Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sanchez, Winks, Sessegnon etc. And that’s why the Richarlison signing more than many others massively irked me because I knew from the offset we were adding another overpaid waste to the squad before a ball was kicked and we’ll find ourself a year or so from now left with a player who cost a bomb, is on massive wages and will likely be tough to flog. The club isn’t learning and it’s so bloody frustrating. I just hope whoever our new manager is does practically exactly what Poch did when he first joined and be absolutely ruthless with those not wanted. If a player is made aware they have no future (like how Nuno told Joe Hart) then they’ll at least try from their end to facilitate moves and that might at least help with getting one or two more off the books than we would’ve done.
Daniel's announcement of Paratici's resignation ends... "We shall continue to strengthen out football functions over the coming months." He should have said... "Our football functions are facing a continuing and sustained disassembling."
Nagelsmann has withdrawn from the Chelsea managerial race. Which now makes Pochettino one of the favourites for it.
Seeing Poch in their dugout would make me physically sick. I don't think he'd consider it, much like he never considered the Barca role due to his loyalty to Espanyol. Having said that though he's spent 2.5 of the past 4 years out of management. Desperation does strange things to one's moral compass.
Might also be his way of saying “**** you” to Levy. Sacked him, then rumours are right now he and some of the board are reluctant to re-hire him… what better way to get revenge than manage rivals and potentially bring them success?
After the week we've had, I decided to do something relaxing this afternoon I went to see Evil Dead Rise
Nagelsmann has ruled himself out from the Chelsea job Skyte Sports have felt the need to rule Nagelsmann out for the Spurs job without asking either party about it first
Maybe the exception that proves the rule! I can only think of 8 Brazillians. Sandro, Gomes, Gilberto, Paulinho, Lucas Moura, Vinicius, Emerson and Richarlison. Not an impressive list agreed Gomes had his moments brilliant in the 2-1 win over the goons, but his best match in a match involving Spurs was probably for PSV, Gilberto enough said, Paulinho was a good player, but we never got the best out of him, possibly not suited to the prem but definitely not suited to the AVB team, Lucas Moura would be 2nd to Sandro if only for 1 night in Amsterdam, Vinicius only on loan and actually did ok when called upon, the last 2 theres no need for further comment here just read various match day threads from this season but they would probably in the bottom half of this list with probably only GIlberto keeping Richarlison off of the bottom and even that might be debatable if you compare the fees paid for them!
Can’t believe you forgot Rodrigo Defendi! He was excellent for us in the zero first team games he played . I’d probably also say that pound for pound Carlos Vinicius may have been the second best Brazilian we’ve had after Sandro, which is damning on the others but a credit to Vinigoal. He done exactly what was needed from him when Kane was rested. 10 goals and 3 assists in 24 appearances is a solid enough return, even more impressive when you realise he averaged a goal or assist every 77 minutes. Shame we didn’t try renewing his loan or negotiated a lower fee with Benfica to get him permanently.
