How it works… we try to sight the moon with the naked eye as per the tradition. We could find out easily via the science available nowadays. However it’s not about that it’s about carrying out the methods as they were always carried out I.e spotting the new moon with the naked eye. Weather factors such as cloud cover could affect this…so be it…that’s the way it’s always been done. Jak is in a Muslim country so these traditions will be ingrained into the culture and these practices are part of the process. So they will have some appointed people who will go to the highest spots for viewing the moon and will attempt to do so. This then probably gets announced on TV and the drum beats begin…sounds quite epic imo If they view it, then that signifies the end of Ramadan…if they don’t for whatever reason….then we assume that Ramadan is definitely over the day after due to the knowledge that a lunar cycle for a month will be 29 or 30 days. For me and others like me…being in the UK…we don’t have this tradition…so what happens for us is that we either follow what Saudi Arabia do what with that place being the ‘centre’ of Islamic heritage or we look to see what the nearest ‘Muslim’ country to the UK does…which has always been agreed upon as being Morocco. Nah, I’m looking after someone 24/7 now so can’t get into it. I had a grow outside. Had to dig a trench for about 70 yards through private land to hook up to the electricity.
