Shooting people??? French riots - generally dissatifaction with Macron's government Germany has just scraped past recession, as we have. But if you're bored with Germany, I'll quote a basket-case like Spain next time, that had to send its young people to work here
You think European countries are flourishing, Strolls? When did we last have riots like France is experiencing. Probably poll tax. How long ago?
"Elnaugh herself described the national park as an ‘incredible vagina of land’." Must be a **** to look after then...
Spain’s GDP outgrew ours every year from 2015 to 2019, did very marginally worse in 2020 (-11.3 v -11). We get the win in 2021 (5.5 v 7.6) then they out-grow us again in 2022 (5.5 v 4) and are forecast to do so again in 2023 and 2024. We’re then forecast to marginally outperform them from 2025-27. Spain also has slightly less inequality. We outperform them on various other factors like unemployment I’m sure but I was hoping Brexit Britain would have slightly higher aspirations than not being worse than everyone else at everything.
STUDENTS OUTRAGED AFTER ACCIDENTALLY VOTING FOR TORY SU PRESIDENT Newcastle University students are “appalled” to have discovered they inadvertently voted for a Tory as the incoming president of the Student Union (SU), and are demanding the election be rendered “null and void” now they have realised he’s not some tree-hugging Marxist. Shah Yaseen Ali was elected as the president of the SU in March, and is now standing as the Conservative candidate for Heaton in the Newcastle City Council election. please log in to view this image While Ali is promising to “unleash Heaton’s potential” if he repeats his barnstorming victory next month, the kids at Newcastle University are calling foul play on the grounds that he hadn’t declared his ambitions before seizing power at the SU. Which just sounds like smart politics to Guido. Ali will go far… Here are a few quotes from students upon learning the devastating news: “It’s a slap in the face to all students” “I feel betrayed” “It’s absolutely shameful, he’s obviously not committed to the role of SU president. There’s already a vote of no confidence going around about him.” “He deliberately concealed it from voters. I would not have voted for him if I’d had known.” “If I’d have known he was a Tory I wouldn’t have voted for him.” “How is he going to actually deliver for the students of our uni? It’s ridiculous. I’m just really skeptical about how he will be able to fully deliver for NUSU if his mind is elsewhere with political commitments regardless of his party choice.” “It’s appalling…” There were at least a few students who offered support, with one saying it’s “great news” that proves “Shah cares about his area”. Guido wishes Shah luck next month…

As silly as it was to give out free money, this all came about because we had to protect the old and vulnerable of the country so no one could go to work
To be fair without the free money they could never have accidentally had half as many billions disappear in fraud. Heating Mrs Sunak’s pool isn’t cheap.
bloody racist tory egyptians Egyptians complain over Netflix depiction of Cleopatra as black Published 1 day ago Share please log in to view this image IMAGE SOURCE,NETFLIX Image caption, African Queens: Queen Cleopatra features British actress Adele James as the Egyptian ruler By David Gritten BBC News A Netflix docudrama series that depicts Queen Cleopatra VII as a black African has sparked controversy in Egypt. A lawyer has filed a complaint that accuses African Queens: Queen Cleopatra of violating media laws and aiming to "erase the Egyptian identity". A top archaeologist insisted Cleopatra was "light-skinned, not black". But the producer said "her heritage is highly debated" and the actress playing her told critics: "If you don't like the casting, don't watch the show." Adele James made the comment in a Twitter post featuring screengrabs of abusive comments that included racist slurs. Cleopatra was born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria in 69 BC and became the last queen of a Greek-speaking dynasty founded by Alexander the Great's Macedonian general Ptolemy. She succeeded her father Ptolemy XII in 51 BC and ruled until her death in 30 BC. Afterwards, Egypt fell under Roman domination. The identity of Cleopatra's mother is not known, and historians say it is possible that she, or any other female ancestor, was an indigenous Egyptian or from elsewhere in Africa. Netflix's companion website Tudum reported in February that the choice to cast Adele James, a British actress who is of mixed race, as Cleopatra in its new documentary series was "a nod to the centuries-long conversation about the ruler's race". Jada Pinkett Smith, the American actress who was executive producer and narrator, was meanwhile quoted as saying: "We don't often get to see or hear stories about black queens, and that was really important for me, as well as for my daughter, and just for my community to be able to know those stories because there are tons of them!" But when the trailer was released last week many Egyptians condemned the depiction of Cleopatra. Skip youtube video by Netflix Allow YouTube content? Cleopatra was Greek, meaning that she was light-skinned, not black." Mr Hawass said the only rulers of Egypt known to have been black were the Kushite kings of the 25th Dynasty (747-656 BC). "Netflix is trying to provoke confusion by spreading false and deceptive facts that the origin of the Egyptian civilisation is black," he added and called on Egyptians to take a stand against the streaming giant. On Sunday, lawyer Mahmoud al-Semary filed a complaint with the public prosecutor demanding that he take "the necessary legal measures" and block access to Netflix's services in Egypt. He alleged that the series included visual material and content that violated Egypt's media laws and accused Netflix of trying to "promote the Afrocentric thinking... which includes slogans and writings aimed at distorting and erasing the Egyptian identity". Three years ago, plans for a movie about Cleopatra starring the Israeli actress Gal Gadot triggered a heated debate on social media, with some people insisting that the role should instead go to an Arab or African actress. Gadot subsequently defended the casting decision, saying: "We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn't there, and I was very passionate about Cleopatra."
