This ain't the Ashley days when he was horrified we got into Europe and didn't spend a penny and we nearly got relegated as a result, these owners want us there. But that's not really the point, I meant Arsenal maintaining their standards as in challenging for the title, rather than being sucked back into the fight for the top 4, potentially making 2nd place up for grabs.
If I'm looking at it over the next few seasons then it has to be Spuds. Spurs will be lucky to retain Kane for one more season. Once he goes they have a huge task to replace him and none of their recruitment over recent seasons suggests they will.
Not really it just appears that way Today , but things can change fast in football . This big 6 thing and one falling away isn't likely because there's quite simply just another club that will compete with those 6 clubs. Aston villa could make it 8 actually because they're one of the richest clubs in the country.
If they sign a few more players they'll be a very strong squad. Saka, Martinelli, Odegard, Trossard = Strong attacking mids Jesus, Nkethiah - Good but could be improved and probably will Saliba + Gabriel = Maybe be the strongest CB pairing in the league. They have some squad depth weaknesses, but they're still making it work.
Certainly are. As I've been poking through the fiances of us, Manc Reds, Chelsea the past week, they are well up there in terms of recent spend. Comfortably ahead of us, but it's never mentioned in the media in a negative manner as everyone knows we're the real deal.
But not as rich as us Villa are doing well now, cos they finally have a top level manager and Emery is in full flow with them now, in a way that he never really got into at Arsenal. Villa have always had potential, but have been average to bad every since Martin O Neil left, they were regular top 6 under O Neil. Ok then if we say it's a big 8, then we have: City - way ahead of everyone else. Arsenal - awesome, but big question mark about if they can sustain this for years to come Liverpool - in transition, need to be careful and do this properly if the **** up of this season isn't going to continue. Chelsea - utter clusterfuck disaster right now Spurs - see above Man U - recently a 5th to 7th place team, but now improved and going for third. Newcastle and Villa - teams on fire taking advantage of the "old" top 6 underachieving. Villa started the season crap with Gerrard, which has allowed us to be significantly above them. I guess what I'm saying is that if it's a top 8, everything right now looks very fluid apart from City being the clear best team. We are in one of the best places for one of the other teams.
Not as rich but richer than 14 or 15 other premier league clubs and more than enough to compete. This idea Newcastle are already knocking a club out the top 6 forever is fantasy. They're still richer in terms of what they can spend and still a bigger draw in most cases. I'm with JakartaToon There's a top 7 ( maybe 8) and the positions will alternate... Newcastle could have a mid table season next season.. it's far too soon to be thinking the jobs done and nufc are now the finished article.
Furthermore it'll be interesting to see how the fans respond if Newcastle go backwards again before they go forwards.It's possible for sure if they land in the europa.
Yup, we're still well off having the firepower actually available to us financially to shoot it out with the top sides. We need years of sustained success at the top to build those revenue streams and develop the squad to be of sufficient depth and quality to compete on all fronts and lap up the extra gate receipts and prize money. We've got to continue to over a achieve for a number of years yet, which when there are so many other good sides in the top 8, will likely (sadly) mean a bit of bobbing about.
Forever is an absolute concept, we can only look at the next few years. Ie in the early 2000s we were regular top 4, and Man City hadn't been near the top 6 for decades, at this time Chelsea weren't top 6 either....fast forward a few years later, and Everton and Villa are top 6 teams....then fast forward 10 years after that and Man U are barely a top 6 team, and we'd previously never had thought that in a million years. All I'm saying is that next year, on paper, in terms of the race for top 6/top 4, we have one of the best and most settled squads compared to a lot of the others, and are in a good place to build on and improve it, whereas many of the other clubs are in a mess and need an almost complete re think.
It's a huge moment potentially in the clubs future. If they land top 4 it's huge but if they don't I'd expect to go backwards for a few years in comparison to this season .
I wouldn't really, and even if, say, we finished 4th next season after we managed to finish 3rd this season I wouldn't call that going backwards. Going backwards would be something like finished 7th next season if we managed to get 3rd this season. Considering the major improvements we've seen in every transfer window since the owners arrived, this team is only going to get better for me. The onus is on Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea to keep up with us now.
Probably ok, but he didn't want to come so **** him. I can't envisage the season really going any better, so Emery definitely ain't the one that got away.
