I'd go Burger Boys and The Cheesecake Guy as my recommendations there's also a Tiny Rebel stall there now as well for beers.
There's not a great deal east of Newport, there's only one junction then the bridge! That junction is Magor though, am familiar with it. Try The Wheatsheaf Inn, Magor village for very good pub food. Piss easy to find, one minute from the Magor junction, M4 junction 23a; The Square, Magor, Caldicot NP26 3HN
Tell you what when these British cruise ships come into port, I am ashamed to be British. First the passangers, these 200kg ****ing ogres, who can barely walk huffing, puffing panting and getting angry when they're told "ur excursion bus is just a quick walk that way Sir/Madam" Panting response "w..what i... Have to walk... There? That's fkn ridiculous!!" They scream, to the Bangladeshi servant who makes a few measly pounds an hour to serve them 24/7. Then I had my own incident, some southern fairy lost his boarding pass and comes to me "Alright mate! Lost me card, just walk on do I?" "No sir, just wait a few minutes and I will escort you to security" He goes "wait? For what? The ****s the point in that?" I go "Yeah, I know, but it's just the rules when you're in port. Especially a city port" "What's ur name, I'm complaining to the ship" "HA! Good luck. You're not getting a thing." "What type of service is this?!" "I hope you don't think I work on the ship. You're speaking to a local." "****ing idiot... What happens if I just go through?" "I'll embarrass you in front of your family and then the police can come." Usually it's a sound job and a bit of extra cash on the side for very very little effort, but so far the Brit ships have been horrible rude ****s. Might have to pack it in before there's a scrap.
I hate cruise ships and reading that mate, seems like I make the right choice to keep away from them.
That one was a P&O Cruise, they're usually cheaper tickets and the ship is MASSIVE so they have a ton on board. To be entirely fair, the majority are just old folk on their holls cos a cruise is easy for them It's the middle aged family types who usually have the issues, or the working class people on their holidays. They think because the boat serves them like kings, they can speak to local residents the same. There are no repercussions for bad behaviour because the poor staff, who I truly feel sorry for, are punished if they get complaints. The staff speak to us a lot and if you scratch the surface they truly, truly hate the passangers.
Another reason for me not to go on a cruise... In fact, the only redeeming quality for one as far as I can see is that I could easily thrown the Mrs overboard on one and she'd never be seen again.
