A pub where golliwog dolls were seized by police should not be considered for "future awards or inclusion in our Good Beer Guide", the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) said.
Camra said it found it "baffling" that the White Hart Inn, in Grays, Essex, chose to display the "offensive" dolls.
Police are investigating after a member of the public reported being racially distressed on 24 February.
Owner Benice Ryley, who runs the pub with her husband, said she had displayed the collection of about 30 dolls, donated by her late aunt and customers, in the pub for nearly 10 years.
In an interview with LBC, Policing Minister Chris Philp said it is "up to police to decide how they respond to incidents" when asked whether it was necessary for five officers to remove the dolls.

Amazing 5 officers to remove 10 little dolls that had been on show for 10 years

I cant wait for bald headed to start a movement about people being displayed with hair.. or red haired Scots [people] being affronted by a bagpipe playing red bearded kilted tourist doll with a sporran made from real animal fur! Seemingly now it only takes 1 PERSON to complain and the police jump in heavy handed.

My Q is on adverts some of the characters portraying individuals do have certain resemblances to the past!........... By complaining to the advert authority could we get them banned ... of course not one rule for and ...................

Quite ridiculous and another undermining of peoples freedom in what is supposed to be a free country. Would the same have applied in the centre of Bradford or Birmingham had the owners had white dolls on display ? Don't be silly, because it would have been labelled as racist and that would never do. It's only white people who can be called racist, far right Nazi's etc just for expressing an opinion.

5 coppers showed up to remove 10 dolls. Just as well the pub hadn't been broken in to as no Police would have turned up.

had a whole load [ part set ] sold them off in mid 80's didnt have this one .... early history .....

Just before World War I, John Robertson (son of James Robertson) was on a tour of the United States. Whilst on a visit to the backwoods he noticed many young children playing with little black rag dolls with white eyes, made from their mothers' discarded black skirts and white blouses.[14] Intrigued by the popularity of the "Golly", he thought it would make an ideal mascot and trade mark for the Robertson's range of products. Accepted by the company, Golly was first shown on Robertson literature in 1910, on items such as labels and price lists.

    Collectables series[edit]
In the mid-1920s, skilled enameller H. Miller from Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter approached the company with the idea of enamelled "mascots". Miller produced the first design, a Golly golfer in 1928. These brooches were given out to people posting in sufficient labels from jars of jam.[3]

    Coronation Golly badge from 1937
Developed as a brooch-based collector series, by the early 1930s the Golly had appeared in little fruit designs, many of which were worn as jewellery because of their high quality. More sporting designs followed, including county cricketers and footballers with footballs in team colours. 1937 saw the Coronation Golly, complete with Union Jack on its chest.

My Grandmother had a few of the golly figurines in her China cabinet
From memory I think you had to collect tokens from Robertsons Jam jar labels and send off for them
I remember one that she had was playing either a trumpet, saxophone or olarinet
No idea what happened to them when she passed

Dominic Raab has resigned as justice secretary and deputy prime minister after an investigation upheld some bullying allegations against him.

The inquiry looked at eight formal complaints covering Mr Raab's time as Brexit secretary under Theresa May, and as justice secretary and foreign secretary under Boris Johnson.

INQUIRY'S REMIT: As an independent investigator barrister Adam Tolley KC was asked by the prime minister to investigate the complaints, involving 24 people.

FINDINGS: Mr Tolley KC found a description of bullying had been met, whilst Mr Raab was foreign secretary and justice secretary.

But, in relation to complaints from his time as justice secretary, Mr Tolley concluded Mr Raab "did not intend by the conduct described to upset or humiliate", nor did he "target anyone for a specific type of treatment".

RAAB'S RESPONSE: In a resignation letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, he said he was "genuinely sorry for any unintended stress or offence that any officials felt".

But Mr Raab said the inquiry "dismissed all but two of the claims levelled against me", adding that "in setting the threshold for bullying so low, this inquiry has set a dangerous precedent".

    Key report details
Raab was 'persistently aggressive' in meeting

One complaint highlighted in the report centred around allegations that Mr Raab acted "in a way which was intimidating, in the sense of unreasonably and persistently aggressive" during a work meeting while foreign secretary.

"His conduct also involved an abuse or misuse of power in a way that undermines or humiliates," the report added.

The report said Mr Raab went "beyond what was reasonably necessary in order to give effect to his decision and introduced a punitive element".

Raab described work as 'useless and woeful'
As justice secretary, Mr Raab acted in an "intimidating" manner when delivering critical feedback on work on a number of occasions, the report found.

The report cites one example where Mr Raab described some work as "utterly useless" and "woeful".

The report concluded that his conduct was "abrasive" on some occasions which "feels intimidating or insulting to the individual but is not intended to be so".

His conduct was not "abusive" and behaviour was not "intended and specifically targeted", it added.

No evidence of misuse of power as Brexit secretary
The report found no evidence to suggest any abuse or misuse of power following a complaint made about his time as Brexit secretary in 2018.

"The deputy prime minister's conduct cannot be characterised as offensive, malicious or insulting," the report said.

"It was experienced as intimidating, in the sense of excessively demanding. I could not make a finding as to whether it was in fact intimidating in this sense.

Raab's gestures 'not intended to be threatening'
It was claimed Mr Raab extended his hand "directly out towards another person's face with a view to making them stop talking". Loud banging on a table and finger-pointing were also among the complaints.

Mr Tolley KC concluded there was "significant scope for misunderstanding" over the physical gestures and he was not convinced Mr Raab used them in a threatening way.

    'No shouting and swearing'
The report found there was no "persuasive evidence" the minister shouted at individuals.

"I also conclude that he did not swear at any individuals or swear more generally," it added.

    Disciplinary threat 'intimidating'
Mr Raab whilst at the Foreign Office, was said to have suggested those involved in a project had breached the Civil Service Code, so would have been in breach of their employment contracts.

Senior diplomat Sir Philip Barton told the investigation he had an informal meeting that he should threaten staff with the code.

The report found it had a "significant adverse effect" on a particular individual and Mr Raab's conduct was "a form of intimidating behaviour".

Mr Tolley concluded he did not intend to threaten anyone with disciplinary action, but should have known how his comments would be interpreted.

What else did the report find?
    • Mr Raab's style was, in his own words, "inquisitorial, direct, impatient and fastidious"
    • He is said to have worked long hours - from about 0730 until about 2200, Monday to Thursday, with constituency work on Fridays and regular weekend work
    • Mr Raab never labelled his accusers as "snowflakes", the report said

Brecon Beacons National Park has announced that it will use its Welsh language name only in future.
The switch - to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park - takes effect on Monday, its 66th anniversary.
Park bosses say the name change will help celebrate and promote the area's culture and heritage.
It is part of a wider overhaul of how the park is managed, to try and address serious environmental challenges.

Following on from ... Eryri .. for years/ decades / longer known the world over as Snowdonia....

What I cant get to grips with is how changing the name how it helps how the park is managed, to try and address serious environmental challenges. ESPECIALLY the last bit "serious environmental challenges". Promotes the area's culture and Heritage!
The Brecon Beacons are a fantastic place above them and under them! enjoyed many many hours on them. Seems like the locals though have abused them over the years let them degenerate and failed the once populus wild life that used to frequent it and allowed the habitats to go into degeneration!
What will be the next the Black mountains and the the " black mountain " at the extreme end of the Brecons .. PEN - Y - FAN has always been a favourite but thinking .. is this also the Black mountain? [ not to be confused with the Black mountains that go across most of Wales [ brecons ] from ENGLAND!

Went on a work Team Building exercise by Abergavenny and Offas Dyke back in the 90s where we had to go up into the hills and onto the top of the Dyke in the dark and in pouring rain
Horrible and inhospitable when we did it !
A lovely part of the world when the weather is nice

I saw one of my best murmurations travelling North through it ..I was in my vehicle and saw this massive black cloud on the horizon.. it appeared then disappeared .. SAS train there! so thought it had something to do with them. moments later another fleeting glance so managed to pull over wondering then there was 2 clouds... behind different hills quite a way off but getting closer .. in the next 10 minutes the penny had dropped ... Starlings .. as little groups from all over joined one cloud or the other the 2 joined up and a swirling mass for a minute or so before they all seemed to dive down behind a hill something around less than a mile away .... same route 2 days later same time ..ish nothing!

The Brecon Beacons are not in England. The Black Mountains may go into Herefordshire but that is not the boundary of the Beacons

Investigation of the boundaries of the BRECON BEACONS is quite interesting. It has a couple of little corridors spikeing off to the north and the south. I was always always interested in the geology aspects of that area of Wales moreso than North Wales. "whats left" of the pre interglaciations and ice age leaves the predominance of the ridges N /S [ with a trend to a slightly NW direction ] The subterranean aquifers, now long since been dry show how massive volumnes of water has scoured out the underground cave passages.
Near Crickhowell is sugar loaf and table top remnants of growing / melting glaciers that were once 000's of feet thick [ as was the topography originally millions of years ago ] Closer to home the Mendips were a smaller version although was again 00's of feet higher before erosion! Driving up the M5 Bridgwater you are confronted by a wall of Hillsides ... the ancient sea cliffs! Brecon Beacons you are simply in amongst them the hills! [ mountains if you like ] the result of eroded ancient sea beds!

We are constantly being subjected to .gov / conservationalist's and people who actually care and appreciate that protecting our past and ancient grasslands woodlands peat bogs and natural world in general is very important. The base line is our ancesters yours and mine for about 8-10 generations have gradually taken no notice... cut down trees ploughed meadows built where we shouldnt have etc etc etc
Nature is a balanced thing a delicately balanced thing .. the illegal timber cutters of Indonesia and Brazil are slowly killing off the human race [ making the bed for that to happen! ]
For years and years, decades, centuries even, bits of land have remained untouched and nature has flourished and it has brought people to appreciate what it is and what joy it gives.
A few years ago pre the Mayors we were being encouraged to build the wild life corridors to bring nature into our city.. [ FOXES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE! I saw them in the centre back in the 70's! ]
NOW OUTLINE PLANNING PERMISSION HAS BEEN GRANTED FOR A PEICE OF LAND IN BRISLINGTON .............. an ancient pasture, community area of natural beauty with a diverse and unique habitat for nature!!! This needs to be overturned.
An article from some place I read when looking at population trends stated that "the natural balance of population was being severely affected by in the long term by the small number of illegal immigrants that slip through the net" [ yep it was a few years ago when illegal immigrants were less than a a couple thousand a year ] It highlighted all the draw backs food / housing/ jobs /healthcare / disease were the main ones!
THERE WERE FIGURES TO SUPPORT CLAIMS OF POTENTIALLY THE AFFECT OVER 100 YEARS ... based on 4 or 5 generations, the number would more than quadaruple [ so long ago cant rember the correct figures might have more or less generations and a higher x explosion of numbers ]
This is one reason we need more houses and need to destroy our heritage .. in years to come we will have loads of concrete and bricks but no grass or arable land left .. birds butterflies plants flowers and tree's will be long gone and a Sunday afternoon stroll will be through a maze of tower blocks where no sun penetrates ... beach's will be non existant as pollution becomes rife ...................................

    what a week that was/ is... actually 5 month's !
The dominic Raab report is now out .. yet to be released to public but DOMINIC RAAB HAS RESIGNED AND HIS LETTER TO DO SO HAS BEEN PUBLISHED ... but far to early for the man in the street to make comment.. although expect the the likes of the blow flies to quickly descend on it.... !
Before comments need to read and inwardly digest but it seems from the letter the report see's no physical or Rayner type slurring or mental articulated bullying. But does lower the thresh hold of what can be construed as "bullying".. [ TEACHERS and HEADS / disciplarians had better watch out the world is turning into a weak mush of softee individuals ... the tail is starting a new evolutionary process .... wagging the dog!

read both letters now and there does seem to be a lot of issues generated [ from it and futuristically ] ... in fact the comments speak volumnes................. the most important bits........

Whilst I feel duty bound to accept the outcome of the inquiry, it dismissed all but two of the claims levelled against me. I also believe that its two adverse findings are flawed and set a dangerous precedent for the conduct of good government. First, Ministers must be able to exercise direct oversight with respect to senior officials over critical negotiations conducted on behalf of the British people, otherwise the democratic and constitutional principle of Ministerial responsibility will be lost. This was particularly true during my time as Foreign Secretary, in the context of the Brexit negotiations over Gibraltar, when a senior diplomat breached the mandate agreed by Cabinet. [ was he one of the complainants? ]

Second, Ministers must be able to give direct critical feedback on briefings and submissions to senior officials, in order to set the standards and drive the reform the public expect of us. Of course, this must be done within reasonable bounds. Mr Tolley concluded that I had not once, in four and a half years, sworn or shouted at anyone, let alone thrown anything or otherwise physically intimidated anyone, nor intentionally sought to belittle anyone. [ a labour tactic of late! ] I am genuinely sorry for any unintended stress or offence that any officials felt, as a result of the pace, standards and challenge that I brought to the Ministry of Justice. That is, however, what the public expect of Ministers working on their behalf. [ Alan Sugar comes to mind or the blaspheming chef!!! ]

In setting the threshold for bullying so low, this inquiry has set a dangerous precedent. It will encourage spurious complaints against Ministers, and have a chilling effect on those driving change on behalf of your government - and ultimately the British people...... >>>>>>>> will it become? ....." please sir the minister told me I had to spend less time on FACEACHE and more time researching the economy" ..

Cant wait for the blow flies to start ... PMQ's next week ..... !!!
