Luis Garcia used to drive me nuts because he gave the ball away all the time but when he pulled it off and created something it was all worth it. Trouble is Thiago plays in midfield so it's a greater risk. Someone's got to do it though

True and I think that’s why the thiago signing obviously raised questions. Very diff from normal functional midfield who were all solid and passed it sidewards. Either with view to help break down teams or a view to change the way we play completely. Still not sure which one klopps gone to, but thinking the later trying to get more control of games but just hasn’t worked as mixing players and styles around.

You need those players to take a risk in order to break down teams. Diaz, lots of trickery and skill on the ball. Will lose it but will also create space and chances by beating people.

Before we signed Thiago, we were regularly dropping points against teams that parked the bus, we just couldn't break them down. Thiago was signed for that reason imo

The irony is that Thiago actually has the best defensive stats of all of our midfielders this year ...

    not hard.

again, go look at arsenal first goal at Emirates for everything wrong with lfc.

thaigo trots forward in minute 2 in a half hearted press. then stands watching and doesn't bother get back in

vvd knows he has to hit saka wide but steps off like he's done all year and let's him run infield free as a bird.

odengaard is left to run into our half and collect ball off saka to pass. no closing down at all.

trent is asleep on his side. martinelli finishes.

that's how many months ago and literally nothing has improved.

One of the biggest problems is that we haven't had a regular 11. All three areas have had long term injuries which has meant we couldn't build any momentum. I think we'd have seen a big difference if the new players had of been able to integrate and grow into the team. Diaz will seem like a new signing.

True. However, the biggest issue is the change in tactics to try and get more out of Trent which, ironically, as got much less from him.

Even some on here have wanted to see Trent in midfield, but I've always been against it. His great talent is pin-point long range passes, not short to mid-range ones. He had so many assists from out wide, it seems mad to me to put him anywhere else.
I rarely challenge Klopp on tactics, but this one baffles me. I don't know if Trent is pushing hard for the change or what, as he seems to me to have bought into his own myth, but why change something that works so well?
One thing's for sure, if he's going to continue this way, we'll need someone else filling the RB spot - as currently the back line is an shambles.

Can only assume idea is to get him into that inside position up the field to play those passes in behind the defence, or purely that klopp doesn’t want him running up and down the wing because he won’t get back at all if he’s overlapping. He’s not same type as Robbo who can get up and down all game.

As you say he’s not good in those tight areas of midfield with players coming at you from all angles. Best is when he’s in that high right position where can delivery brilliant crosses in, similar positions to that which de bruyne picks up fro city imo but how you get him there while still being defensively solid is tricky.

Personally think just need to go back to having an energetic CM infront of him whose main job is to drop in and cover those gaps when TAA pushes forward.

Someone needs to cover for him, because as we've seen all too often, if the RCB is pulled out wide Trent doesn't get back behind him quick enough and there are big gaps in the back line. Unfortunately our current ageing midfield doesn't have that energy.
Despite all that, I still think Trent's greatest talent is passing from wide positions, so regardless of whether or not his defensive duties are covered, we're losing that source of chances. Often Hendo ends up going on the overlap with Salah, and although he can put in a decent cross quite often, he hasn't got the magic in his boots that Trent has.
I just think his talent is being wasted, and I hate to think he's being played out of his best position just because he thinks he's better than he is elsewhere.

Our right side was our biggest outlet for several years because we got the most out of Mo and Trent . For some strange reason, we changed the set up and now are getting the worst out of them.

the tactics have been a shambles this year

That's what happens when you don't read back and your phone has 'corrected' your spelling. <laugh> Clearly should say had've.

"Could of" and "should of" have become so widespread now on social media that it can't be all that far off from being considered acceptable. :(
Mixing up of and off, or to and too are other things that vex my grammar pedant gene.

Because we talk a lot more than we write some aren't aware that it should be 'had have (had've)' because verbally it sounds like 'had of'. I must admit though that I am guilty of bad grammar on many occasions because, as you rightly point out, it is acceptable on a platform such as this. Having said that, incorrect spelling and grammar doesn't get to me like it does you. The only thing that irks me is the misplacement of the apostrophe when pluralising a word.

I worked in printing, in the origination department. One of the things we had to do was proof read stuff given to us by copy-writers and page designers.
It's ingrained me now, I groan whenever I see obvious errors because I can't do anything about it. :)
    Apart from moan.
I'm aware that it can come across as precious or condescending, but when you're trained to pick up on such things as part of your job it becomes a hard habit to break.
