It seems pretty likely he’ll go in the summer doesn’t it, good luck to him. Let’s hope we spend the money wisely.
In which case we get to keep him a bit longer. Selling in January often get’s higher prices, it’s a win win. Unless it’s a career ending injury it shouldn’t make too much difference, players get injured.
Torquay are doing their level best to beat the drop, I hope it's not too late. They've won their last 4 league games in a row and are now within 2 points of Aldershot and safety with just 4 games remaining. Next game is home to York City which is certainly winnable. They then have tough away games at Chesterfield and Altrincham and then play the probable champions Wrexham at home on the last day of the season. Aldershots last 4 fixtures are easier on paper. But when was football ever played on paper ? Yeovil will go down.
For me it is so sad to see Yeovil in such peril as I have great memories of going to a few of their matches at the sloping Huish Park. I have always been interested in their climb into the League and the subsequent progression up the tables, so to see them fall so far from grace is very saddening personally. Perhaps if they get their act together a swift return to the National League could bring them back closer to where they should be in the near future.
Sad for me Inver, always loved playing down there in the 70's. It was crazy defending corners looking upwards. I still have friends who are season ticket holders. They can't believe that only a few years ago they beat no less than Brentford to win promotion to the Championship.
Not that long ago they were the highest placed West Country side - the only one in the Championship. Shame.
Plenty of once famous and moderately successful EFL clubs have fallen from grace, into the National League, beyond it, or have gone out of existence completely National League Wrexham - odds on to be promoted back to the EFL after 15 years away Notts County - were in the top flight not that long ago. Are likely to get over 100 points this season, but won't get automatic promotion due to the rules Chesterfield Halifax Oldham Scunthorpe - About to be relegated from the National League. Successive relegations Maidstone United - already relegated from the National League this season Southend Dagenham & Redbridge York City Barnet Torquay United Aldershot Yeovil Town National Leagues North & South Darlington Southport Hereford Boston Utd Chester Bradford Park Avenue - about to be relegated from National League North Kidderminster Harriers Gone from the top 6 divisions completely Rushden & Diamonds Workington Town
22 signings a prem club so say 22 x a minimum of £8k per week = circa £10m a year wages! [ Plus the extra legal payments req so around £13m ... however have 33 named in squad so maybe 11 of them average £20k a week so with legals = another £15m a year! a mere drop in the ocean from money they get from prem / tv etc... butthey are in relegation zone and heading back didnt they have a good cup run?
They'd still be in the EFL but for advent of promotion from the Conference/National league. Until late 70's it was the 'old pals act' voting which, unfairly, kept most of the clubs you mention staying in the football league.
I know The likes of Workington were re-elected every season for a few years and then the money ran out. Likewise I think that was the case with Barrow who lost league status in 1972 and only got it back a couple of years ago Workington were one of the first clubs that I remember losing their league place Then along came the likes of Hereford, Cambridge and co The National League have been asking for 2 automatically promoted teams for a while and I think that’s more than fair
Not forgetting of course the Blue few on the other side of our city were once on this list of failure
Rovers finished bottom of the league in the 1938–39 season, and were forced to apply for re-election to the league when competitive football resumed after the war, Bristol City voted yes and supported them to be re elected, if only...
I hate to say it but they did very well to bounce straight back up. Very few clubs do that after relegation to the conference..
I have a long lost contact, when I was in outside sales, whose family bought him a birthday surprise of 2 seats from the old Huish Park. Who did you play for when you went down there Reddprint? Kudos to the blue side who were one of a rare bunch that got promoted back at the first attempt.
Inver Yeovil were Southern League back then, a league up from the team I played for Clandown - we played in the Western League. The time I remember most was losing 2- 0 in a Somerset Premier Cup semi down there. Ex Swindon captain Stan Harland was player manager, Bryn Jones was among a few ex Rovers players who played for Yeovil that night.
now into the last 4/5 games and looking like top4 places are now settled! Stuttering Blackburn could with game in hand bridge the gap between 4th and 5th leaving just 1 position to reach play off's Norwich maximum of 73 points look out of it now as need 4 wins but GD advantage over PNE and BLACKBURN both on negatives!!! Coventry needing 1 win to equal 62pts of 5th 6th and 7th teams and Sunderland needing 2 results to reach par with them seems to rule them out. WBA and Watford changed managers to effect a return to top 6 seem to have failed... need 2 wins and hope all above lose a couple Whilst Watford in 10th when WILDER took over are now 12th Q is would BILIC have got more than 5 points from the 18 played for since? That brings us to City ... looking at now so close to top 6 just 9 points away, bearing in mind some of the stupid last minute defeats or points lost in first half [ middle ] of the season we could easily have been well ensconced in top top 6! start the day on 13th could well finish as low as 16th!! hopefully we can move into top half though!
