Palace are the visitors this Saturday to ST Mary’s on the back of a couple of decent results with Roy temporarily back in charge. Us however? I never expected anything against City, but boy oh boy we have been poor, especially at home. Nonetheless Saturday will be a new day. Discuss….

If Elyounoussi starts in this I'm walking straight out of the stadium! We've got to play our most creative players. Hopefully Che is fit as well and if he isn't start Paul - we need a presence up front. And Theo's been more effective on the right rather than through the middle. Hopefully Palace exhausted their goal tally against Leeds. Baz KWP ABK Bedders Perraud Lavia JWP Theo Charly Sulemana Che/Paul
Djenepo is a good shout. He made an instant impact last game. We need someone who can commit defenders.
Unless, of course, there is a cunning plan to gift points to lure the other relegation threatened teams into a false confidence then burst past them on the finishing straight. This tactical genius is working to perfection thus far....
The nature of this season is that we still have an unlikely chance of survival. Win two of our next three (Palace and Bournemouth) and we are right back in it again. The problem with that is actually winning.
Yeah if we win 4 of our remaining games (yeah I know) Palace, Bournemouth, Forest and Fulham then I think we might actually survive. Maybe a draw in one of the other 4 and that would be 36 points. On paper the 4 “winnable” games do all look very possible, in reality we will probably lose all 8
This year, just Everton, Chelsea & Leicester to date. Let’s smash it lads, starting Saturday. Edit: Blimey, can add Nov, Dec & half of Oct to that. 3x wins since 19th Oct & now we need 4x in next 6 weeks. Let’s go!
Difficulty with that…apart from winning any game…and scoring…is that we struggle more against ‘beatable’ teams as they give us little room and we aren’t very good. And we don’t have a Le Tiss to save us.
Yeah, I mean, normally getting 7 points from 4 against that winnable opposition constitutes a very decent result, as would 3-4 points from the other four (Arsenal/NUFC/BHA/Liverpool). That won't get us there, though. I can definitely see us picking up points, but it's likely to be just enough to get our hearts broken, rather than enough to get us over the line. It's doable -- Leicester was on 22 points through 30 in 2014/15 and six points from safety, and finished WWWWLWDW to finish six points clear. But given that feat was just slightly less demented than their title win the following year, it's not exactly something I'd invest a lot of hope in.
I'm beginning to think that the total to stay up is going to be above the usual 35ish marker. Bournemouth are already on 30. Just looked at the games this weekend and IF we win and results go our way, it will look a lot more rosy. West Ham: Arsenal (H) Bournemouth: Tottenham (A) Leeds: Liverpool (H) Everton: Fulham (H) Forest: Man U (H) Leicester: Man C (A) Fulham looks like a reasonably easy game for Everton now, but the rest are tough. This is a massive game. I feel very strange - posting on here with a bit of optimism while posting on the Championship thread about the players I want to keep to help us get promoted next season
Dear Crystal Palace, do the right thing and let Saints win ten nil, even if you have to put the ball in the back of your net nine times yourself. You know it makes sense. That is all.
I think that Palace are a bogey side for us. They are not really relegation fodder and with Hodgson in charge, I would have thought that the performance they gave against Leeds is more tpyical of what they are about as a team. I am not confident about this result.
Just this result? Confidence disappeared months and months ago, but hope remains, it's our hope over experience which keeps us going!!
We need to do a Palace here. A month ago they were nosediving and went 3games without a shot on target let alone scoring. Now they are scoring 5 away from home. We need one of those games where it all comes together. Some commitment, some passion, some skill, some goals, some teamwork and a huge slice of luck
“Exactly! And that is what is so brilliant about it! It will catch the watchful Hun totally off guard! Doing precisely what we've done eighteen times before is exactly the last thing they'll expect us to do this time!”
