aye, I've got one. I still use my passport though, but going back home I can use the card to enter Ireland if I want but it has to be a national identity card issued by Ireland, Ireland is not in the schengen area I cannot get a Finnish identity card and travel to Ireland with it, or an EU card, it has to be an Irish Identity card

If you are a citizen of a country not in the Schengen area, Ireland is not, you can't enter or leave without a national identity card issued by the state you are a citizen of (or passport). So for Ireland, any card issued to me in Finland is useless, even any EU level ID is useless, I need my irish passport, or my Irish ID card

It rather suits the UK that Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, and Ireland is the only country not penned to join, the other two are Romania and Bulgaria If Ireland went into Schengen area, its a path for criminals and gangs, illegals ect and the like right to the UK via the border in the north. I cant think of why Ireland otherwise would not be in the Schengen, that and we've no land border which is what all Schengen area is about. UK was never in Schengen area so I dont see how you travel there with EU ID

Look at the US to see how federalised states works out and they had a much better freer start The federal gov takes over completely and we in EU don't have the protections US states have from the fed gov in some areas, they mostly control through funding though, that's how they get the states to play ball in certain areas
